After speaking (see below) at the DevOpsDays Zurich 2017 and participating in 2018, Martin Thalmann asked whether I wanted to join the organizers committee to create the 2019 event. I had no idea, what a great experience was before me. Last week we hosted the 8th DevOpsDays Zurich (+1 virtual in 2020). The 6th one that I co-organized (+1 virtual), and the 5th time for me as a Master of ceremonies (M.C.). When I started moderating the event, I had a pretty clear idea how I wanted things to be, as I had seen great moderation role models at other #DevOpsDays conferences (👋 e.g. Daniel "phrawzty" Maher). Each time as a M.C. my goal is the same: bridge the "virtual gap" between stage and audience, as I think there should be none. Everyone at a #DevOpsDays conference is a participant. Whether they organize, sponsor, speak or ...participate. Everyone should be part of one and the same thing. There shall be no gap between people on or off stage. It's truly an honor to moderate the event each year. The community is truly nice and my co-organizers simply rock. Thank you for: (besides so many other things): Martin Thalmann - bringing me in, Co-PO'ing the event and being the backbone of the conference Romano Roth & Nadine Broghammer - doing a great speaker management at the event Selina Reist & Isabel Schacher - your great designs, photos or running the back office Jan Moser & Franziska Buehler - a flawless technical support and coughdrop supply. I would have been lost on stage without you! Flavio Monigatti - ensuring the a great sponsorship experience Tobias Weinmann - keeping the world informed Last but not least, thank you Dorota Parad for keeping up the "tradition" of having me as a "meme" appearance in a speaker's slide deck. 🤣 (started 2023 by Arjanna van der Plas & Laurence Kozera, kept up in 2024 by Iris Hunkeler) Next year's conference is already scheduled for May 6th & 7th, while ticket sales will start already Jan. 5th. _________ Photos from this year's event: https://lnkd.in/ecrbjvET Event Page: https://www.devopsdays.ch/ My Ignite talk 2017: https://lnkd.in/e2tC-SxN

DevOpsDays Zurich hat dies direkt geteilt
As always, amazing, insightful talks today at DevOpsDays Zurich. Here is a bit of a run-down and what I took away: Marc Schuh in his talk "Athlete to Algorithm: Transforming Canoe Technique Analysis with AI" shared a great and accessible case-study of how #AI image recognition works, what it's challenges are and how to overcome them. Best thing: real live demos of foreground-background separation and 'skeleton detection'. Talking live-demos: Lena Fuhrimann gave a fantastic demo on how to built a #serverless function on AWS from scratch in her talk "Level Up Your Serverless Game". Christina Kraus presented her learnings of "Building Internal Platforms to Enhance Developer Experience" with a few of supporting, large(r) organisations that have already scaled, making a strong point that managing cognitive load is a key success factor of any platform 'work'. Going to the absolute extreme then, Robert Lehman shared how his team at Google built "Planet-Scale Dashboards". Now, admittedly, not all organisations will have to built Dashboards at that scale and level of automation and sophistication but some underlying ideas on how to look built Dashboards not individually but more generally, and make them easily discoverable, I felt were highly transferrable insights. Finally, the talk that 'really stood' out for me - especially as a non technical person - were Daniel Raniz R. recommendations on how to improve #CICDpipelines in regards to - amongst other things - cycle time and also energy consumption. While all insights from his talk make sense, many are quite counter-intuitive, until they are being pointed out explicitly. I can see many teams being inspired by "Pipeline Patterns and Antipatterns - Things your Pipeline Should (Not) Do". Looking really forward to Day 2.
