Making airway management safer
Info
The European Airway Management Society (EAMS) is a non-profit pan-European multidisciplinary society created to provide a forum for health professionals interested in airway management, collaborating with other national and international scientific societies to promote an exchange of information, to encourage education, research and scientific progress - in sum, to raise the standards of airway management! The commitment of EAMS to promote and disseminate the best scientific base evidence of airway management has been demonstrated through the involvement and organization of several events as congresses, meetings, courses, workshops, lectures and webinars. EAMS is a growing non-profit society, open for new members, new ideas and concepts, new scientific approaches to airway management and educational strategies to teach and learn airway management. All healthcare professionals involved in airway management are more than welcome to join and take an active part in the Society! Welcome to EAMS!

Article of the Month July - The Future of Artificial Intelligence Using Images and Clinical Assessment for Difficult Airway Management The involvement of artificial intelligence (AI) in airway management has only just begun. This article written by Silvia De Rosa, Elena Giovanna Bignami, Valentina Bellini and Denise Battaglini published in Anesthesia&Analgesia is a good way to give a brief update on where we are now. The integration of AI with radiological imaging (X-ray, CT, MRI,...) and clinical assessment will allow predictive appraisal of difficulty and correct positioning of the tracheal tube. In addition, AI will guide the use of certain devices to control airway management in a safer and less harmful way. We have come a long way, but this has only just begun... #EAMS #EuropeanAirwayManagementSociety #airwaymanagement #difficultairway #artificialintelligence #AI

Article of the Month June - Video Laryngoscopy vs Direct Laryngoscopy for Endotracheal Intubation in the Operating Room: A Cluster Randomized Clinical Trial Kurt Ruetzler and coauthors published in JAMA this trial focused on the use of videolaryngoscopy compared to direct laryngoscopy for patients undergoing elective or emergency cardiac, thoracic or vascular surgery requiring an endotracheal tube for general anaesthesia. Its results indicated a reduction in intubation attempts with the use of hyperangulated videolarygoscopes, further supporting the use of videolaryngoscopy for the airway management of patients undergoing elective and emergency intubation in the operating room. #EAMS #EuropeanAirwayManagementSociety #airwaymanagement #difficultairway #videolaryngoscopy #hyperangulatedblades

Article of the Month May - Hyperangulated vs. Macintosh videolaryngoscopy in adults with anticipated difficult airway management: a randomised controlled trial Videolaryngoscopy is used increasingly as a first-line technique. There is a large variety of manufacturers, device geometries, concepts and adjuncts. But which device might be the best for an individual patient, context or specific user? The BLADESHAPE study by Köhl and coauthors recently published in Anaesthesia compared Macintosh videolaryngoscopy with hyperangulated videolaryngoscopy and showed improved glottic view with hyperangulated videolaryngoscopy, which translated into higher success rates and reduced tracheal intubation time, when used by experienced anaesthetists on expected difficult airways. The choice of the optimal videolaryngoscopy geometry should rely on contextual and patient-related factors as well as user skill level. So, has the time come for personalized videolaryngoscopy? #EAMS #EuropeanAirwayManagementSociety #airwaymanagement #difficultairway #videolaryngoscopy #hyperangulatedblades
