Bonne retraite, réseau cuivre. Place au futur : la fibre optique FTTH, que nous déployons résolument dans le canton de Fribourg depuis plus de 10 ans.
Fibre is the future: After 150 years, Swisscom is saying goodbye to copper cable and will rely exclusively on fibre optics in the medium term. This will save energy - and yet bring massively more power to households and businesses: Currently 10 Gbit/s, one day perhaps even 50 Gbit/s. Swisscom was the first telecoms company in the world to put the necessary technology into operation in a field test as early as 2022. But how fast will it be? Together with our network construction partners, cooperation partners and local construction companies, we are working day in, day out to expand the network throughout Switzerland. No longer primarily in the cities, but in the urban centres and rural areas. > Currently, 46% of homes and businesses already have a fibre optic connection. > This figure will rise to 57% by the end of 2025. > By 2030, the proportion will increase to 75 to 80% > Construction will continue even after that; in all municipalities in Switzerland. Until even the last copper cable has had its day. But is it possible with fibre optics alone? Yes, Swisscom has already tested this. But of course it will only be switched off where fibre is already available. Once the entire copper network has been shut down, it will save as much electricity as 20,000 households consume.
