🌱👥Global Infrastructure Basel Foundation (GIB)'s next-generation infrastructure prioritizes the development of interconnected systems that are intelligent, efficient, and resilient, tailored to meet the needs and aspirations of present and future generations. We champion the active engagement of young people, leveraging their creativity, innovation, and profound understanding of evolving technology to shape infrastructure. ✨One of our key initiatives in this space is the Safe and Sound Cities programme, funded by Fondation Botnar. It aims to improve the safety and wellbeing of young people in urban environments by targeting young people aged 15 to 24 and supporting their meaningful engagement in ideating and implementing solutions to safety and inclusivity challenges. Through engagement with local governments, institutions, private sector, community actors, and young people, the programme takes a systems-wide approach to creating safer spaces for all, especially children and youth. 🎊As we celebrate this year’s #UrbanOctober theme, Engaging Youth to Create a Better Future, we extend our heartfelt thanks to our partners, funders, and collaborators who are helping us create safer, more inclusive cities for young people!

🚀 Pathways2Resilience is set to welcome 40 regions to The Hague, kicking off an exciting 18-month collaboration to co-create solutions that drive positive change and innovation across #EuropeanRegions! At GIB, we are proud to contribute our expertise in Climate Change Adaptation, particularly in Key Community Systems (KCSs) like Critical Infrastructure and the mobilization of sustainable finance. Our work focuses on designing climate resilience pathways and innovation agendas, while bridging the Adaptation Finance Gap for P2R. 🎥#PeopleOfGIB ✨ Chengchen Qian joined GIB in September 2023 as a Senior Project Manager. Before GIB, he was working for UN’s Environment Programme and brings a wealth of experience in Sustainable Infrastructure and the Green Economy. At GIB, he's leading efforts in the EU Adaptation project, Pathways2Resilience, and the FAST-Infra Label project. 🌍 He has a Master’s in Engineering from the Technical University of Berlin and has a global experience working across China, Germany, Bahrain, and now Switzerland. His mission? 🌍 GIB participated in the two-day NetworkNature EU Annual Event in Belgium, hosted by IUCN and ICLEI Europe. Our Project Managers, Amanda Radstake and Christine Mertens, represented GIB in key discussions. On Day 1, they engaged in Task Force 3 to explore finance and business models (for Nature-based Solutions) in a nature-positive economy. The session saw exchange of ideas and discussion on promoting NbS and tackling existing barriers to data and knowledge sharing, standardisation, criteria and assessment frameworks, education, governance, finance, and business models. Day 2's highlight was Humberto Delgado Rosa’s (EU Environment and Climate) keynote at the ‘Busting Myths: People and Nature’ event, where he explored the impact of myths and challenges faced by the #NatureRestorationLaw. The event was a great opportunity to engage with inspiring projects tackling challenges and sharing their vision for a sustainable future! 🌱💡

🌍🌊 On this #WorldRiversDay, we shed light on GIB’s pre-feasibility report: ‘Addressing Flooding with Nature-Based Solutions along the Pedieos River, Cyprus’. Flooding is one of the most devastating impacts of climate change, posing a significant threat to communities, infrastructure, and ecosystems. At GIB, we recognize the critical need to develop sustainable solutions to mitigate these risks and build resilience. GIB’s pre-feasibility report explores how by integrating #NatureBasedSolutions we mitigate flooding and support long-term climate adaptation strategies. Traditionally these solutions are funded through public capital, but there's significant potential for private sector involvement—especially when there’s a clear revenue stream linked to the NbS asset. Over time, cost savings from flood protection can fund the asset itself.
