According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), only 47% of female graduates in Tanzania secure employment within a year of graduating, in contrast to 72% of male graduates. The Niboreshe project, led by the Global Shapers Community Dar es Salaam Hub, aims to tackle this issue by narrowing the gender gap in academic and professional opportunities. This initiative establishes mobile learning centers in Dar es Salaam, delivering high-quality education directly to communities, particularly focusing on providing girls with the necessary skills to succeed. By addressing challenges such as transportation and accessibility, Niboreshe empowers young women and girls, fostering greater inclusivity and improving long-term job prospects. In July 2024, the Dar es Salaam Hub received the Innovation Prize from the Global Shapers Community, Accenture, and the Global Alliance for Youth to help scale its efforts. #GlobalShapers #Impact #InnovationPrize

Unemployment among recent university graduates is a critical problem in Ghana. Employers partly attribute it to a mismatch between job market requirements and the skills of graduates. To address this issue, Ghana's Global Shapers Accra Hub has launched "My First Job," a career accelerator program that empowers early-career graduates to find their first job, build relevant skills, and gain the necessary experience to advance their careers. This project is supported by the Ministry of Education of Ghana and the National Secretariat in Accra to strengthen the National Service program through youth insights. The pilot program of My First Job involved 30 recent graduates. 16 of them completed their 6-month national service, 60% of them secured employment within 3 months of completing their placement and training. The Accra Hub aims to train and place 100 new graduates in the next year. In July 2024, the Global Shapers Accra Hub received the Innovation Prize from the Global Shapers Community, Accenture and the Global Alliance for YOUth to help scale its efforts. #GlobalShapers #Impact #InnovationPrize

Over 400 leaders from the Global Shapers Community, Schwab Foundation and the Forum of Young Global Leaders contributed with diverse and unique perspectives to the dialogues at #SDIM24 during the United Nations General Assembly, Summit of the Future, and Climate Week in #NewYork in September. Global Shapers, in collaboration with 1t.org, positioned young people’s perspectives on corporate climate action. The session explored the converging crises of institutional trust, biodiversity loss, and climate change and connected young professionals with corporate leaders to enable youth to reimagine corporate strategies and public policies. Earlier this year, Raissa, one of our Community Specialists, participated in a Learning Journey to Kakuma in #Kenya with The Forum of Young Global Leaders. The trip showcased the significant economic contributions of refugees through social entrepreneurship and business within the camp. Despite the complex nature of the camp, the youth, who form the largest demographic, have succeeded in creating opportunities for themselves. In 2018, the first YGL journey to Kakuma resulted in the establishment of the GSC Kakuma Hub in partnership with UNHCR, YGLs, and local youth groups. Since then, the hub has launched six impactful community projects, including a comprehensive COVID-19 response. The Kakuma Hub amplifies the voices of youth refugees and challenges refugee narratives on global platforms.
