The reality is, in part, it's not going away, but it's certainly more focused on organisational goals and driving customer value. UNCERTAINTY Having spent the week S&P Global’s excellent #CERAweek, we all asked each other what is the theme? That itself is instructive: My theme would be Uncertainty. What’s Noise, what’s signal? The energy markets are grappling with huge uncertainty. Drill! But what about my steel pipes? What about OPEC? Decarbonization? Will the IRA be repealed? The general view is economics and fundamentals are the signals, policy and politics are the noise when it comes to investment. The fundamentals arent bullish for #commodities but the volatility and fragmentation of markets are for trading. It’s worth noting, despite the protests outside, inside there was a high temp of talks on the reality of #climate change and the threat it poses. #energy

The renewed tariffs on steel and aluminum threaten to inflate already-high car prices. Together, the metals account for more than half the materials that go into cars, and costs from the tariffs likely will get passed along to car buyers, analysts say. If left in place, they could on average inflate the costs to automakers of building a car by about $400 per vehicle. Ford’s F-150 and Super Duty pickup trucks, the company’s biggest profit generators, are among the most aluminum-intensive vehicles on the market. The company a decade ago converted the trucks to a mostly aluminum exterior, including the hood, doors and truck bed, to save weight and enhance fuel efficiency.

The EU has published its white paper on defence preparedness and procurement, see here https://lnkd.in/dNnMVdw2. Paragraph 80 pushes for the establishment of a bank for defence, security and resilience. This bank will also employ #supplychainfinance techniques, especially deep-tier, to ensure the robustness of military supply chains, more fragile than might be thought. This is an important, strategic opportunity for the #tradefinance community to not only promote security and peace in Europe but to develop an under banked asset class. ITFA encourages its members to explore the opportunities.
