Changemakers’ pitches at the IUCN Leaders Forum 2024 show that investing in nature is good for #business. The #IUCNLeadersForum Changemakers initiative brings together young leaders and innovators who are designing or implementing innovative #nature conservation or biodiversity action projects in their communities. For the third year in a row, the IUCN Leaders Forum hosted a new group of changemakers and invited them to pitch their initiatives to a panel of judges and an audience of private sector leaders, academia, and government and civil society representatives. With projects ranging from batteries made from paper to an artificial intelligence platform that connects providers and seekers of green solutions, changemakers from around the world pitched a wide array of innovative solutions to the most pressing environmental issues facing the planet. We are thrilled by the incredible success of the IUCN Leaders Forum, which brought together nearly 500 participants, including many private sector leaders. It was an inspiring three days of #collaboration, #innovation, and #vision – these conversations and connections that we have made are an important and meaningful step towards achieving our goal of building a #sustainable and healthy #planet for all. I am grateful for the opportunity to meet with many inspiring leaders from the private sector. The critical role that partnerships with the private sector play in addressing our global environmental challenges cannot be denied. Businesses have the resources, innovation, and influence to drive transformative change, and their involvement is vital in shaping a sustainable future for both #people and #nature. I thank them for their support and look forward to co-creating solutions that can bring us closer to achieving our goal. It was also wonderful to be able to engage with representatives from indigenous communities, and to witness the dialogues between indigenous peoples and the private sector. IUCN is pleased to be able to facilitate these conversations and help build these very important dialogues. The Changemakers Pitch Sessions were another standout moment. The energy, creativity, and passion from the young #leaders were truly remarkable. Their bold ideas and solutions remind us that the #future is in good hands—these youth are not just advocates for change, they are driving it. A huge thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making this event such a success. Let’s continue to build on these partnerships and momentum as we work together to create a better, more sustainable world.

The #IUCNLeadersForum 2024 closed with a call to work across ‘boundaries and borders’ to secure change for #nature. It saw the release of an IUCN flagship report on the interplay between agriculture and conservation and the US government announced an additional $14 million in funding for the End Plastic Pollution Innovation Collaborative. IUCN Director General, Dr Grethel Aguilar, marked the end of the three-day event with a speech on the importance of inclusive, collaborative action in urgently addressing nature loss. “At IUCN we recognise that conservation being the sole responsibility of conservationists is a crutch that our planet can no longer afford. We are very encouraged by the conversations we have had with private sector leaders throughout this forum and look forward to co-creating and collaborating on solutions to protect our planet,” she said. https://bit.ly/3YeMYmB
