This week at LCIS, our Primary students wrapped up an exciting STEAM Week, diving deep into hands-on challenges and creative problem-solving. Throughout the week, Year 1 to 6 students took on age-appropriate MIT challenges, using creativity and critical thinking to solve real-world problems across Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths. Some highlights of the week: 🛰️Year 5 explored sustainability in space with their ‘Mission to Mars’ challenge, figuring out how to clean up space debris and design satellites that leave no trace. 📸Year 3 worked on capturing images and film in remote locations to help protect endangered species and habitats. To top it all off, we are thrilled to host MIT at LCIS this November! MIT Collaboration Programme Manager and Curiosity Correspondent Abby Haley will spend two days talking with our Secondary students to discover what sparks their curiosity, homing in on specific thoughts to find out where our students enquiring minds are travelling to. The conversations will be videoed as part of a collaborative exchange to create Ask MIT and Biotic MIT Curiosity Correspondent videos, where MIT experts respond to student enquiries Mark O’Brien, Assistant Head of Primary at LCIS, and Regional STEAM Lead for Europe comments: “At LCIS, our world-class collaboration with MIT enhances STEAM learning, igniting creativity and critical thinking. This approach equips our students with the skills to innovate, collaborate and tackle the challenges of tomorrow. It aligns perfectly with our Learning Goals -eight essential character traits that we believe will empower our young learners to thrive in every aspect of life.” Learn more about our STEAM week and the collaboration with MIT on our blog: https://lnkd.in/gT3_8H6s

LCIS is very proud to have been awarded the Bronze Social Impact Distinction by Nord Anglia Education. This is a recognition of the work we do under the Nord Anglia Social Impact in support of the UNICEF Sustainable Development Goals and the Universal Declaration of Children’s Rights. The ongoing work of our Eco-Schools team, our annual World Children’s Day celebrations, charity work with The Lost Food Project and others, the secondary PSHE focus on diversity and tolerance each year, Black History Month and International Women’s Day assemblies and workshops, our student councils, Model United Nations, our IBDP CAS program and attendance at the annual Nord Anglia/UNICEF summit are all examples of what we do here at La Côte and our wider community that contributed to the award. What was also very clear from student surveys was that they feel heard and cared for by the whole staff at LCIS, which was the key piece of evidence for us upholding children’s rights. We now move on to apply for Silver accreditation over the next two years 👌 #sustainabledevelopmentgoals #sdg #socialimpact #lacoteinternationalschool

On a sunny and clear mid-September morning, nine LCIS IB Diploma students set out from Col de la Forclaz, Trient, on the first leg of a four-day, 55 kilometre hike. This was the final challenge and assessment to complete the The Duke of Edinburgh's Award - Gold level, which they had been working towards for the past 18 months. Carrying all their gear, they faced over 3000m of vertical ascent, camping in the mountains, and hiking autonomously. Despite tough weather, they powered through, showing resilience and teamwork. On day three, 11 more students joined them, training for a 2025 Mount Kilimanjaro climb. The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award requires young people to engage in voluntary work, physical activity and to acquire a skill. It is an excellent opportunity for young people to take something they enjoy to a new level, setting themselves goals and persevering until they achieve them. Along the way soft skills are improved and enhanced – skills that round out their academic achievements and give them an edge as they make their way into further education and their working life: Teamwork, resilience, time management, problem solving, reliability and more. As an internationally recognised achievement, it is an incredibly worthwhile endeavour. Read more about the expedition on the blog today: https://lnkd.in/egNpnNE3

At LCIS we teach the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) which integrates a variety of subjects through a topic ensuring our students develop a deep love for learning. Students in our Primary school have the unique opportunity to follow the IPC in either English or French. When the IPC is followed in French, almost half of their curriculum is taught in French. This helps foster bilingualism (and in some cases trilingualism!) and a deeper connection to the Swiss francophone culture. Want to know more about our Primary and Secondary school curricula? 📚Did you know our school library holds over 13,500 books in both English and French? Fun fact: right now, we have more than 1,100 of those checked out by our students and staff! We’re also growing our collection in 12+ other languages to support our diverse school community🌍 Here’s a peek into how our students are using the library: EYFS & Primary students visit weekly for story time, research lessons, and to check out books in both English and French. They love exploring stories, whether solo or with their French classes. Secondary students enjoy the library as a social hub during breaks and use it for research, group work, and reading during class hours. Research and referencing lessons help prepare them for IB coursework and papers. We also have special programs, like Parents Story Time, where parents volunteer to read with students weekly. Students get personalized tips to improve their reading. “What do I love most about working here at LCIS? The joy of watching students light up as they discover new worlds through books, and helping them grow their research skills for future success. Plus, I get to read and learn something new every day,” says Ms Cover, our Librarian and book whisperer.

Starting fresh in a new school or country can be daunting, but at LCIS, we make sure every family feels at home from day one. We’re not just a school—we’re a community, a family. 💙 Our recent, and most anticipated, Welcome Apéro, held in the beautiful scenery of Signal de Bougy, overlooking Lake Geneva and the Alps, brought together both new and longtime families, along with teachers and students. On a warm and beautiful end-of-summer evening, we gathered to connect, share stories, and build relationships that go beyond the classroom. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this evening so special. We look forward to another fantastic school year together! #internationalschool #internationaleducation #expatcommunity #lacoteinternationalschool

The IGCSE 2023/2024 results are in and we are beyond proud to share that 49.4% of our grades were Grade 7 or better, with over 20% achieving the coveted Grade 9! With over 85% of grades at Grade 4 or better, this truly reflects the hard work and dedication of our 2023/24 IGCSE cohort. “I cannot congratulate highly enough all our students, their teachers and parents for this stellar performance, and I know that they already have very high expectations of what they can achieve in two year’s time at IB Diploma,” said Mr Puttock, LCIS Principal. #IGCSE #igcse #ibdiploma #createyourfuture Nord Anglia Education
