While traditional staking tokens like ETH only cover specific objective faults—such as ensuring a blockchain’s consensus remains valid—$EIGEN is built to secure tasks that involve human consensus, called intersubjective faults. How Does $EIGEN Enhance Security? 🔐  Unlike most staking tokens, $EIGEN does not just ensure objective cryptoeconomic security (like slashing for double-signing or invalid transactions). Instead, it focuses on tasks that require human observation and agreement—what we call intersubjective security. This type of security protects against faults like: • Data withholding: Ensuring validators don’t hide important data. • Censorship: Slashing validators who selectively block transactions. • Invalid state transitions: Detecting and penalizing validators for incorrectly processed states that aren't easily verifiable on-chain. Expanding the Use Cases 🌐 By introducing $EIGEN into the ecosystem, EigenLayer unlocks the potential for Actively Validated Services (AVS) to flourish. These services, built on top of EigenLayer, leverage $EIGEN’s intersubjective fault detection to secure applications beyond what’s possible with ETH staking alone. Some prominent use cases include: • Oracles: Ensuring the accuracy of off-chain data, $EIGEN slashes validators for submitting false data. • Data Availability Layers: By slashing validators who fail to make data publicly available, $EIGEN ensures transparency and data reliability for decentralized storage solutions. • AI & Gaming Platforms: Verifying complex computations performed by GPUs, $EIGEN helps ensure that AI models and gaming logic behave correctly without needing on-chain fraud proofs. Why This Matters With $EIGEN, the EigenLayer protocol significantly enhances decentralized trust by enabling more robust slashing mechanisms that extend beyond what’s verifiable solely on-chain. This opens up a new frontier of innovation, where decentralized applications can operate with enhanced security, transparency, and accountability, even for tasks that require human consensus. In essence, $EIGEN and ETH staking complement each other—ETH provides foundational cryptoeconomic security for objective faults, while $EIGEN secures tasks that rely on human observation and agreement.
