Planeto built its TESSA application with https://solara.dev and is a heavy user of ipyleaflet. They wanted the drawing tools to be externally controlled by solara so it is better integrated into their application. As open-source enthusiasts, Planeto sponsored the development of the Geoman.io draw plugin for ipyleaflet, which is now available as of ipyleaflet 0.19.0.
