Good news for the quantum science and technology community in the Upper Rhine Valley: the project UpQuantVal (Vallée quantique du Rhin Supérieur /Quantum Valley Oberrhein) has been selected for funding by the Interreg Rhin Supérieur | Oberrhein programme and will be starting in January 2025. Over the past months we have been working with partners to join forces and bring together universities, research organisations, start-ups and industries as well as associations and private sector stakeholders to propose common approaches for tackling some of the challenges in #quantum such as cross-border #education and #training, #technology and #knowledge transfer and joint development of long term #strategies in #quantumcomputing, #sensing, #enablingtechnologies and #AI. Our activities will be open to all interested in the region and beyond as we will be striving to make the Upper Rhine Valley an even stronger and attractive cross-border quantum ecosystem at the very heart of Europe. Thanks again to our colleagues for working hard on providing and structuring ideas, our respective institutions for the support and the Interreg Rhin Supérieur | Oberrhein programme as well as Kanton Basel-Stadt , Kanton Basel-Landschaft, Schweizerische Eidgenossenschaft for funding. Stay tuned and follow UpQuantVal as we will be announcing more news soon. New Month, New Conference! 🌍 As flat as the River Elbe on a warm summer evening, our ultra-smooth diamond platelets are heading to Dresden! 🏞️✨ Join us at the 34th International Conference on Diamond and Carbon Materials (#ICDCM2024), organized by Elsevier, where the brightest minds in the field gather to share the latest advances in #diamond, #carbon nanotubes, #graphene, and more. We are excited about our participation in this incredible event! 📅 When? Thursday, 5 September 2024 🕤 Time? 9:30 - 9:45 AM 📍 Where? Session 12A: Diamond Growth II, Dresden, Germany Our colleague, Felipe Favaro de Oliveira, will headline the session with his presentation on the "Fabrication of Thin and Highly Smooth Single-Crystal Diamond Platelets for Quantum Applications." The work of Qnami's Quantum Foundry team, Felipe, Gediminas, and Marcelo, addresses a crucial challenge in #QuantumTechnology — engineering thin diamond platelets with sub-micrometer thickness and ultra-low surface roughness, paving the way for advanced quantum sensing, communications, and computing applications. Abstract Highlights: #Quantum technologies rely on the development of sophisticated materials with precisely engineered properties. Our approach produces single-crystal #diamond platelets hosting tailored nitrogen vacancy color centers, achieving surface roughness below 1 nm RMS. We also present design #innovation that facilitate the transfer and placement of these platelets onto substrates, unlocking new possibilities for cutting-edge sensing and miniaturized quantum devices. Why attend? Discover how our scalable and robust fabrication techniques are helping redefine what’s possible in the quantum world. A big thank you to #ICDCM for providing this platform for sharing our innovations with the world’s leading experts in diamond and carbon materials!
