We’re teaming up with POLITICO Europe to host a debate on the importance of striking the right balance between incentivizing innovation and supporting access to medicine in Europe’s intellectual property (IP) system. 📢 A well-balanced IP system should reward medical innovation with a period of patent protection, before opening doors for generic and biosimilar competition, which lowers cost and expands patient access to new medicines. Patent protections must be fair, and the system must mitigate anti-competitive evergreening practices aimed at extending exclusivity. With generics and biosimilars making up 70% of essential medicines in Europe, a thriving off-patent medicines sector is key to a sustainable healthcare ecosystem. It is imperative to have this discussion and evolve IP frameworks for the future of patient care in Europe. Read more and register through the link below to join the debate 👇 #PharmaPatentsEU

This week marks five years since COVID-19 was declared a pandemic.    So, what’s changed in the healthcare industry?    There is greater appreciation for the role of critical medicines—particularly generics—which has resulted in more flexible supply chains and more focus on security of supply, and better cross-sector relationships.     But are we truly better prepared for the next global health crisis? Our CEO Richard Saynor shares his thoughts on the lessons learned—and forgotten.

Our Chief Commercial Officer Rebecca Guntern spoke to EMJ in occasion of this year’s International Women's Day 2025, discussing how healthcare leaders can better drive gender equality. Thank you, Rebecca, for discussing such an important topic. Supporting, amplifying, and advocating for gender equity is not just a responsibility – it is a necessary step toward a fairer healthcare industry, for both industry professionals and patients.   Read Rebecca’s take through the link below 👇

    Chief Commercial Officer Sandoz

As we continue the conversation around this year’s International Women's Day 2025, I had the pleasure of speaking with EMJ about how leaders in our industry can better drive gender equality—both in the workplace and in patient care.  Now more than ever, achieving this is going to require continuous commitment, role models, and a strong voice. At Sandoz, we focus on ensuring equity in career growth, leadership opportunities, and pay while also addressing the broader healthcare disparities that disproportionately affect women.  There is still work to do, and it starts with action. We generally support the objectives of the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive to provide for cleaner water in Europe. We challenge the directive in its current version as it puts access to vital medicines for millions of patients across Europe under threat. Read the Medicines for Europe post below to learn more 👇

📢 Medicines for Europe supports legal action from ten of its members against provisions in the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive which puts access to medicines at risk. Generic medicines are the backbone of European healthcare systems, representing 7/10 dispensed medicines and 9/10 critical medicines while accounting for just 19% of pharmaceutical market value. The Extended Producer Responsibility system in the UWWTD disproportionately affects the producers of generic medicines. The increased cost from these risks makes them commercially unviable, causing medicine shortages and putting patients and public health at risk. Read the full announcement: https://buff.ly/shJbpSw

More than a century after the first International Women’s Day, championing equality for women remains a top priority. As our CEO Richard Saynor said on IWD last week: by coming together we’ve made good progress at Sandoz. We are proud of the strong representation of women in our senior leadership team - but we recognize the importance of supporting and providing opportunities for women across our business. We are committed to #AccelerateAction by advocating for women’s equality, being active allies, supporting professional growth, challenging biases, and celebrating the achievements of women to create a future where everyone thrives. #SandozLife

Ahead of International Women's Day 2025 tomorrow, I thought I'd share some of my thoughts on this topic. It does somewhat baffle me why even after more than a century of marking International Women's Day 2025, we are still championing for gender equality when really, it should be a given. Having lived and worked in Asia for over a decade where I had the privilege of working alongside a predominantly female leadership team, I am a firm believer that with diversity comes a stronger culture, and with a stronger culture comes better performance.   My team recently took the opportunity to ask me a couple of questions on where I think Sandoz stands in this regard, as well as my thoughts on how we can fast-track to a future where gender equality is not an aspiration but a reality.   I hope you enjoy the short video and I would love to hear your thoughts on what we can do to #AccelerateAction
