New video on Rock the JVM, and this time I'm doing something different: a long-form, wide-ranging conversation with none other than Martin Odersky, the creator of Scala! We talk about - the future of Scala - learning and teaching programming to adults and kids - becoming a better developer by learning Scala - good library design - capability tracking and strong type systems - Scala 3 compared to Rust, Kotlin and Java, in terms of patterns and anti-patterns - LLMs and the evolution of programming languages and more! This is a first for me, so please let me know if you found this conversation interesting, because I might make more! #programming #softwareengineering #Scala #podcast

Scala 3 will require JDK 17+, starting from Scala 3.8. This will enable the compiler and ecosystem to move faster and leverage new features and APIs. The decision is in line with similar decisions happening around the whole JVM world. Read about it at https://lnkd.in/gPc57EpE

Check out what our friends VirtusLab discovered in the Scala Projects Maintenance Survey https://lnkd.in/dPZxJM77 ⬇️
Scala Projects Maintenance Survey results, still fresh from the oven are there! With over 100 responses from tech leaders and managers from our community to shed some light on how Scala fares. We shared pieces of results earlier, and it started a discussion - so we hope that we as a community will be able to learn and improve. We are aware that this survey isn’t perfect; it has blind spots - but it is better to reason based on some results rather than base your judgments just on one’s feelings and experience - no matter how vast it is. We would love to capture 10x more responses, so if you miss the survey, please reach out - we are open to hearing any voice.
