Guillermo Salcedo leads our new operations facility in Mexicali, Mexico. After training as an industrial engineer, Guillermo S. made a conscious choice to work in health technology. He finds it rewarding to be part of an industry where the products have a positive impact on people’s lives. Guillermo makes sure every new joiner in Mexicali watches customer experience videos on their first day on the job so they appreciate the outcome of their work. “It brings us closer to the customer knowing that a person will use what we make here,” he says. I just got back from a week’s visit to China together with Sonova’s Board of Directors, which was all about connecting with our teams, customers, and partners. We were impressed by China’s continued progress in driving awareness and support for bringing hearing solutions to those in need. For us at Sonova, it’s really important to meet our customers and colleagues in person to understand how we can best support them. And that’s what we did: our tour took us to our customer locations, several hearing care stores, including partners’ stores who follow innovative retail approaches, and our office in Shanghai. A personal highlight was our meeting with Gong Zheng, the Mayor of Shanghai, where we had the opportunity to discuss a common goal: Higher welfare through better hearing care. To achieve this, Sonova will continue to focus on improving access to hearing solutions and services across China. In line with this commitment, we visited one of our key customers together with our cochlear implants team, the Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University, the largest ear-nose-and-throat clinic in China. The hospital has over 200 doctors dedicated to patient care, many of whom were able to join us in meaningful discussions about their needs as ENT specialists. We also took time to educate ourselves. Our visit to the newly opened Institute for AI in Education was eye-opening, showing us the possibilities ahead. Additionally, our new collaboration with East China Normal University will enable us to provide hearing care solutions on campus and continue supporting audiology education. Meet Christiane Basilio, Manager of Audiology Training and Development at our Audiological Care brand Connect Hearing Canada, who is passionate about using her expertise to make a difference in the lives of children with hearing loss around the world.      In April 2024, Christiane volunteered with the Hear the World Foundation on a life-changing project in Guatemala. “I am proud to be a part of an organization dedicated to supporting projects worldwide that empower children with hearing loss to thrive according to their age,” she shares.     During her time in Guatemala, Christiane played a vital role in helping the local audiology team implement best practices for hearing aid verification. The first two days of the project focused on familiarizing the team with the equipment and conducting practice sessions among themselves, before moving on to work with adult patients. Soon, the team plans to extend their practice to children. Christiane's contribution helped build the team's confidence in safely and effectively fitting hearing aids, a skill that will have a lasting impact on the community.  By contributing both knowledge and time, Sonova's volunteers help make a tangible difference in communities that need it most. In the business year 2023/24, volunteers performed a total of 978 hours of work on 36 assignments.      Christiane’s work is a critical part of our sustainability strategy and in particular of how we are serving society. What’s a great way to enhance the experience of gaming? At Sonova, we believe it’s all about delivering quality sound.     At one of the biggest gaming events in the world, gamescom, our Consumer Hearing business set out to delight visitors by showcasing top-notch sound. The Sennheiser HD 620S headphones were at the forefront through partnering with the Indie Arena Booth, a creative hub featuring over 160 indie games. Also, by teaming up with XPERION Germany for a sound quiz, where popular creators guessed game sounds and hummed tunes — all while wearing the Sennheiser HD 620S.    The results?
