We just published the third edition of “The BESSt monthly”, terralayr’s newsletter covering key developments in the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) market.🔋 As the topic of “Netzdienlichkeit” (grid supportiveness) of BESS is becoming ever more important, this edition explains why BESS is good for the grid and how we can solve local flexibility needs. BESS can reduce grid congestion, curtailment compensation and the need to spend billions reinforcing the grid. By offering grid operators direct access to BESS, terralayr’s platform can help grid operators to solve local flexibility challenges whilst enabling asset owners to diversify their revenue streams. As always, our newsletter also provides an in-depth analysis of the the German power market and an update on developments at terralayr in the last weeks, such as Philipp Man's presentation at the Munich Security Conference's Energy Security Hub (picture below). Relevant for all stakeholders in the broader BESS market, including power producers, traders, battery optimizers, grid operators, project developers, and energy-intensive businesses such as data centers. Thank you to Tim Höttges for hosting us with our CEO Philipp Man at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and discussing how terralayr can help optimize Telekom's power consumption. ⚡ As one of Germany’s largest power consumers, Deutsche Telekom accounts for approximately 0.5% of the country’s total electricity consumption—around 2.3 TWh in 2023. With a commitment to sourcing 50% of its electricity from renewable PPAs by January 2026, the company is taking significant steps toward a more sustainable energy future. At terralayr, we are excited to support this journey with our energy flexibility as a service solutions. Let's drive real impact together!

We won't stop until everyone is connected

Technology for All, Innovations, and AI at MWC Three days full of innovations and insights into the future of mobile #technology are behind us. The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is far more than a mobile communications exhibition – it is the "showcase of the digital economy," as the press aptly describes it.   Under the motto "Shaping Technology for All," we at Deutsche Telekom focused on AI technologies this year. We are particularly proud of our AI Phone, which attracted a lot of attention with Perplexity's digital assistant. Other exhibits at our stand included a drone as a flying mobile antenna, successfully used at the "Jizerská 50" ski race in the Czech Republic to provide coverage in hard-to-reach areas, and our AI honeypots, which mislead hackers and help us better understand their tactics.   Of course, a visit to the 4YFN area – the meeting place for start-ups whose solutions could be ubiquitous in four years – was a must. There, we also visited our second stand with start-ups from hubraum. I was particularly impressed by the startup Matterway, which automates decision-making processes and is already in use at our DTSE. In the investor area, four start-ups pitched exclusively for us. Particularly exciting for me was terralayr, energy storage as a service. This is a solution that could help us at Telekom to manage our energy consumption more intelligently.   The #MWC was once again a great opportunity to exchange ideas with colleagues, partners, and innovative minds. The largest telco fair is like a class reunion. You constantly run into someone you know. 😉 It is also important for shaping the future of mobile communicaitons technology. This includes the opportunity to once again highlight the necessity of making #Europe competitive again.   #MWC25 #Innovation #AI #Startups #FutureTech

terralayr’s next grid-scale battery energy storage project is Ready to Build! 🔋🏗️ Construction will begin soon, marking another milestone for terralayr and our efforts in accelerating the energy transition. What does Ready to Build mean? It means everything is in place for construction to start—grid access, secured land, building permits, easements, and more. Project Highlights: ⚡ 8 MW / 16 MWh 📍 Lohsa, Saxony 🔋 Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology 📈 Planned Commercial Operation: early 2026 Each new battery storage facility is a crucial step towards a more resilient, renewable-powered energy system. This project is part of terralayr’s growing portfolio of large-scale battery storage systems, all of which will be integrated into our flexibility platform to enable access to the best offtakers in the market, whilst enabling buyers of flexibility to access capacity on demand. A special thanks to MITNETZ STROM and sdp energie for their collaboration. Watch this page - new announcements coming soon!

Mikko Preuß, our VP Strategy & Commercial, participated in a panel discussion at the Energy Storage Summit 2025 in London. The panel, see his five take-aways below! 🔋

𝗧𝗼 𝘁𝗼𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗼𝗹𝗹 - 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻? 🔋💸 Last week at Energy Storage Summit 2025, I joined the panel on how to hedge volatile BESS revenues through tolling. Five take-aways: 1. 📣 𝗧𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗼𝗳 (𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆) 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗻 - 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗲. Despite lots of curiosity from developers, asset managers, and off-takers, few deals have been signed in Germany so far. Pricing remains a challenge, especially for long-term contracts. 2. 🛠️ 𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 Structures vary (virtual vs. physical, full stack vs. DA/ID only) and contracts (long-form) are often still customized first-time efforts. 3. 🤔 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹.  Questions around risk/responsibility-split often are underrated during “indicative bid” phase. Be prepared to become best friends with your legal advisor. 😉 4. 🪫 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗕𝗘𝗦𝗦, 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺. For stand-alone, small/mid-sized assets, it is tough to find competitive offers in the market. Big, bankable counterparties are not comfortable with too much fragmentation and prefer the big tickets. terralayr can help here! 5. 🚀 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲? 𝗜 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗲𝘀! Optimization of the BESS risk profile in order to unlock low-cost sources of capital is one of the major challenges of the BESS asset class. Revenue-derisking will become a core consideration for many developers and asset managers. 💬 What’s your take on tolling agreements? Are they the key to unlocking more storage investments? Let’s discuss! 👇 👉🏼 Check out Energy-Storage.news’ article covering the discussion (Link in the comments) Thanks to all panelists for the great insights!
