Today, on International Women’s Day ... Our respect goes out to those women who have sewn our everyday clothes, like that comfortable mom jeans, those colorful sneakers and that much coveted shirt we love so much. Respect to those women who work night and day under sweatshop-like conditions with countless human rights violations, and get paid wages too low to secure a decent living for their families.   The GoodFashion Institute is clearly against these forms of exploitation. We are committed to raising awareness and advocating for ending this business practice in the fashion industry.   We encourage consumers to purchase clothing items mindfully, considering the environmental and social aspects.   Stop fast fashion!    #InternationalWomensDay, #sustainablefashion, #stopfastfashion #buymindfully

Did you know that - Customer loyalty increases significantly when fashion brands offer reselling opportunities?  - Fungi serve as nature’s clean-up crew by efficiently breaking down organic matter and synthetic polymers? - It’s possible to trace back, with just one unique solution, a retail garment across the supply chain to its raw material? These were some of the ideas unveiled to a select group of investors at the The GoodFashion Institute Investors’ Luncheon. The presenting ventures, from the world of sustainable fashion, were: Reflaunt creators of a one-stop fashion resale solution that leverages brand-powered circular models to ignite growth in the fashion industry Rheiazymes a venture whose proprietary technology will enable closed loop recycling by breaking down materials back into their main raw components Haelixa Ltd specialists in product traceability using DNA markers, offering transparency on the authenticity of a product along the supply chain The meet also featured the investor perspective provided by Collateral Good, a climate-first and technology-focused venture capital platform. As highlighted by the The GoodFashion Institute, with measures like the EU's Supply Chain Act (CSDD) and the Digital Product Passport (DPP) on the anvil, the regulatory framework is progressing to put sustainability front and center. A big thank you to our speakers Stephanie Crespin, Sandra Grimmer, Roland Grimmer, Gediminas Mikutis, Michael Kleindl, Susanne Otto-Bomio and Punleuk Kam. Change is indeed in the making! Get active and join the The GoodFashion Institute to make fashion more good - for the environment, for people. #impactinvesting, #esginvesting #sustainabletextile #sustainablefashion #csdd

The EU's Green Deal, which aims to promote sustainable growth and achieve climate neutrality by 2050, has reached a significant milestone. On December 14th, 2023, the European Parliament and Member States agreed on the EU Supply Chain Act, which aims to ensure that companies contribute to sustainable development, respect human rights, and protect the environment throughout their supply chains. National parliaments must now ratify it into national law. A complementary initiative proposed by the European Commission under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) is the Digital Product Passport (DPP). The DPP, in its early stages of development, serves as a comprehensive digital twin of a product, providing consumers with vital information about its lifecycle, supply chain, and social and environmental impacts. Both the DPP and the EU Supply Chain Act align with the EU's broader goals of promoting sustainability and accountability in product manufacturing and supply chains. The DPP is anticipated to become mandatory for all products sold in the EU, with batteries being the first category required to comply in 2026, followed by apparel and consumer electronics. The DPP will have a global impact reshaping global value chains and driving transparency, traceability, and consistency. The GoodFashion Institute (GFI) welcomes both the EU Supply Chain Act and the DPP. Susanne Otto-Bomio, Director at GFI, emphasizes the importance of facilitating the implementation and market uptake of the DPP. She suggests that consumers would benefit from a trusted label or "GoodFashion Score" to better understand the sustainable impact of products. The GFI is exploring partnerships with notable bodies such as the EU Ecolabel. 2023 comes to an end and looking back the year we came across many efforts – cool brands, cutting edge technologies and promising business models – to improve the socio-ecological footprint of the textile industry. Hence we are confident to state: the fashion industry is on its way to become more sustainable.   Based on the many studies and findings, the GFI observes three major dynamics continuing to shape the industry: - Regulatory framework becoming effective and especially will help to create transparency along the value chain of the textile industry (e.g. the EU’s Digital Product Passport). - Innovations in technology and research continue to advance the circular economy in the fashion market. - Demand & interests by the consumer for sustainable fashion continue to raise.   At the same time the GFI foresees obstacles in the industry: - While the regulatory framework is coming into place, the question of «how to execute » it in the textile industry is still vague and needs more clarity and consistency. - While transparency in the production chain helps to limit greenwashing, a trustworthy label helping consumers in making an informed purchase decision is still lacking. - While many good ideas and technological innovations on how to drive the circular economy in the fashion industry are booming, most of these efforts clearly lack one thing: capital to enable the market-breakthrough of these innovations. - While the interests of consumers for sustainable fashion continues, there is a gap between the mind-set and the actual purchasing behavior. - Beside the many influencing aspects, we do see two critical factors which impacts purchasing behavior: price (can I afford it?) & design (do I look good with it?) To drive the textile industry to become more sustainable, these obstacles need to be addressed. The GFI focuses its efforts to help tackling the critical ones: * Capital: At the GFI Ventures Club, we connect qualified investors with innovative ventures who have proved their market potential. * Seal of Trust: With the « GoodFashion » - Certificate the GFI aims to improve validity and relevance of the EU Ecolabel * Mind-set Change: The GFI will kick-off its «GoodFashion@Schools» program, to help raise awareness for sustainable clothing among primary school kids – the future buyers. * Know-How: Additionally, the GFI plans to set-up with selected Executive Schools a « Managing GoodFashion » Executive Program to increase the education on how to manage fashion companies considering environmental and social aspects along the value chain.   Transforming an industry to become more sustainable is an ongoing task and requires the effort of all: the fashion companies, investors, politicians and most crucially, the consumers. To make it happen: Join the GFI in making fashion ecofriendly and socially fair. As an investor, as a sponsor, as a donator or as a volunteer. #sustainablefashion #fashionindustry #textile #sustainability #venturecapital
