  • 💛 People for People: Hrystyna Burko. How Not to Lose Yourself in Emigration "A little longer, then we'll go home." This thought stayed with Hrystyna all those years in Switzerland. She never planned to stay. Her husband, a musician, left first for a contract at the Mеnukhin Academy. She stayed in Ukraine with their sons, waiting to reunite. Two years later, she moved to Switzerland — temporarily. ⏳️ 2017. A Country That Didn't Feel Like Home Hrystyna felt disconnected at first. She didn’t lear the language actively, didn't try to make new friends, and stayed on the sidelines. Life felt like waiting—days passed, but she wasn’t really living. ✨️ Then, one morning, she woke up to birds singing. "I had never heard so many birds as I do here." In Lviv, spring mornings sounded different. But here, opening the balcony door, something felt… different. 🔍 Leaving the Familiar, Finding the New Slowly, life began to change. Her children adapted quickly. "They speak French. This is already their home." For her, belonging came later. Hrystyna is a professional violinist. In Lviv, she worked at the Philharmonic, played in the Lviv Virtuosi chamber orchestra, and toured the world. Music was her life. But in Switzerland, her career seemed to pause indefinitely. "I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t see my place here." 🎼 Over time, Hrystyna found her way back to music. Now, she plays in chamber and symphony orchestras, performs solo, and teaches violin in French and English. She also discovered a new experience—playing in a duet with her husband (double bass-violin), something they had never done in Ukraine. 📍 The Turning Point 💔 War. She couldn’t just watch. Her husband started volunteering, and she joined in. Later, she found her place in Ukraine reborn. "For a long time, I refused to accept that Switzerland was more than just a stopover. But when you start doing something and become part of something bigger, everything changes." Now, Hrystyna is the secretary general of Ukraine reborn. She documents events, coordinates meetings, and helps support the community. 😌 What Changed? "I allowed myself to be me." In Ukraine, she was used to constant judgment—how she looked, what she did, how successful she was. "Here, none of that matters. What you do is valued, not how well you fit someone else’s expectations." Switzerland opened new doors—she finally started driving. 🙏 Her Advice to Those Who Have Just Arrived? "Don’t waste time on isolation. Go out, meet people, look for opportunities. If you do nothing, the country feels closed. But once you open up, so do the doors." A story about change, embracing the unknown, and stepping outside comfort zones. And about the fact that even in a place you never planned to stay, you can find a home—and your people. And lastly, if you or your child would like to learn the violin, Hrystyna teaches both children and adults. 📩 Contact: hrystynaburko@gmail.com #Ukraine_reborn #People_for_People

🤝 Integration isn’t about “them accepting us,” it’s about “meeting halfway.” Learning the language, finding a job, adapting? Those are just technicalities. True integration is about interaction. We blend into local life, and the Swiss finally get to see who we truly are. At the roundtable organized by FER Genève with the support of Etat de Genève, this was exactly what we discussed. But the real magic happened afterward: FER’s journalist Flavia Giovannelli-Egger came to Ukraine reborn to learn about the Ukrainian community in Switzerland. 🤝 Together with Nadiia Olarean, we set the record straight. Why is integration for us not about losing ourselves but about mutual growth? Why is it crucial not to lose our own voice? 🔹️ Cultural Differences: Ukrainians are used to open communication, while the Swiss tend to value privacy. Neither approach is better; they’re simply different. 🔹️ Language and Qualifications: Many Ukrainians have to learn French from scratch. At the same time, most have high levels of education and experience but face rejections as “overqualified” candidates. 🔹️ What Can Be Done? Local employers could consider highly qualified candidates even with intermediate language skills, while Ukrainians need to be open to starting in simpler roles. Government institutions also need to align with this approach and not to block work attestations for highly qualified candidates applying for lower-level positions. This mutual understanding will benefit everyone. 🔹️ Psychological Support: Many Ukrainians continue struggling with war trauma, and each person needs their own time to heal. We advocate for Ukrainian psychologists to be allowed to work in Switzerland (at least under supervision), as native language creates a safe environment for therapy. ❓️ Why Not Russian-Speaking Psychologists? We often get asked this question. For those affected by the war, psychological support in the aggressor’s language is not only ineffective but can also cause retraumatization. 🔹️ First Professional Steps: “When you’re evacuating from a war zone, you don’t have the luxury of planning your career path in a new country,” shared Nadiia Olarean. “You think, ‘Where do the buses go?’ and ‘How can I keep my children safe?’ Only with time does a new road form out of the chaos. At Ukraine reborn, we support Ukrainians on this journey. Through our Professional Profiling Program, we help them figure out their first professional steps in Switzerland — realistic projects that provide experience and open up future opportunities. And we truly hope more local employers will collaborate with Ukrainians because we have so much to offer — we just need a chance to get started.” We are incredibly grateful to FER Genève for facilitating this dialogue and to the Canton of Geneva for their ongoing support and commitment to meaningful conversation. These discussions remind us that integration isn’t one-sided adaptation but genuine interaction. #Ukraine_reborn

𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲: 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 ✨️ Communications people are the ones who always talk about others—and almost never about themselves. So, writing this text feels a bit strange. But we figured it’s time for a proper introduction! We are the Ukraine reborn communications team. Two Irynas. Two people make sure the association’s projects are heard loudly and clearly while you get only useful and verified information. ✍️ Iryna Kondratenko A journalist with 20 years in the profession—so at this point, I’d like to think I have a pretty good idea of how things work. I moved to Switzerland a year before the war, which gave me a slight head start on adapting. I spent years at 𝗛𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗱𝘀𝗸𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼, working with some of Ukraine’s top journalists, learning professional standards, ethics, and what it means to stand firm regarding truth and values. Working in my field in Switzerland is something I deeply appreciate. That’s why I put my experience and skills to work at Ukraine reborn with full dedication. I truly value every comment, like, criticism, and discussion. I speak to each of you through my writing, hoping to make adaptation and integration a little easier. 🙏 ✍️ Iryna Platon A linguist teacher of English and Ukrainian. I love words and know how they work. Before the full-scale war, I lived in Kyiv and studied at 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘀 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝘃𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗸𝗼 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆. When the war started, my sister and I moved to our parents’ home in Odesa region. But as the situation worsened, we had to leave—first for Poland, then for Switzerland. Doors open to those who knock. So I try to knock—even despite my fears. From the start, I took every opportunity: volunteering, joining the USpring Mentorship program, learning the language, and interning at 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. At Ukraine reborn, there’s no time for slowing down—only limitless potential for growth. Communication is all about rhythm—if you trust the flow, magic happens ✨️ And sometimes, you just need a moment to catch your breath. We love what we do. And we know that social media isn’t just a newsfeed—it’s a direct conversation with people. 🤝 So, after this little self-introduction, here’s an announcement: 𝘄𝗲’𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀! If you, like us, want to learn, overcome the “I’ve never done this before” barrier, and create content that resonates with people, we’d love to have you on board! 🎯 𝗪𝗲’𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁𝘀, 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁.
