Follow them for news and information about the Hub for Housing Justice, a collaborative initiative recently launched at the World Urban Forum (#WUF12) in Cairo. The Hub’s goal is to strengthen the capacity of civil society to influence policymaking, seeking to: 🏡 Promote more just and sustainable housing conditions for the world’s majority ✊ Reduce poverty and discrimination 🤝 Recognise the needs of migrants and marginalised groups, and 🌍 Make communities more resilient to the effects of climate change.   The work of the hub is led by a group of partner organisations including IIED and other civil society networks and academic institutions: SDI. 🏙️ Réinventer le logement au Familistère de Guise 🌍 AdP – Villes en Développement est partenaire du Campus Urbain qui se tiendra le 5 mars au Familistère de Guise, un lieu emblématique où s’est expérimenté un modèle d’habitat coopératif et solidaire. Nous y serons avec Luc Gnacadja, Anne Burlat et Pierre Arnold pour échanger sur l’habitat et l’urbanisme collaboratif et durable. 🏠 Dans un contexte de crise systémique mondiale, le logement doit être repensé comme un élément central de la justice sociale et environnementale. ✅ Le Familistère de Guise nous invite à dépasser les clivages entre modèles du Nord et du Sud, en intégrant : Des principes de solidarité et de gouvernance partagée issus des modèles du Sud. Des cadres réglementaires et une planification inclusive inspirés des modèles du Nord. Une approche durable et locale, qui privilégie les circuits courts, l’entraide et un équilibre entre habitat et qualité de vie. 🔥 Au lieu d’importer un modèle dominant, il est temps d’inventer des solutions hybrides adaptées à chaque territoire, fondées sur des valeurs communes de dignité, d’accessibilité et de coopération. Building on our joint report with Community Land Trust Network and Dark Matter Labs on Community-Led Stewardship in the context of large site housing developments, we've written a short piece on the 'Lessons for community leadership in large scale housing in the EU' with initial views on the implications for the forthcoming European #AffordableHousing Plan (EAHP). Europe needs to rapidly increase housing supply. However, experience with large-scale housing developments has shown that the design phase, while crucial, is only half the story. The long-term success of housing developments hinge on effective place stewardship. By giving communities genuine ownership and control, we see enhanced long-term affordability, improved environmental sustainability and increased resident satisfaction. The success of new developments will not just be marked by the number of units built—but how these new developments are managed and stewarded to ensure affordability, sustainability, and community are all long term.
