✍️ If you missed out on the 2nd Swiss Translational Medicine Conference last week at sitem-insel AG, no worries, Women+ in MedTeCH will cover its highlights here for you: 👩⚕️In her keynote, Dame Sue Hill highlighted Healthier You, the NHS Diabetes Prevention program, which uses behavioral interventions to prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes through remote and digital interventions. Further, the innovation pathway of Discovery - Translation - Adoption – Diffusion was emphasized to be kept in mind. Viola Vogel addressed that “most drugs today target proteins at equilibrium. But life happens far away from the equilibrium.” To learn more, check out her start-up Tandem Therapeutics to learn why stretching really matters. 🔹️The Symptom Navi Program by Manuela Eicher & Rudolf Blankart is a nurse-led symptom self-management support for cancer patients throughout their treatment journey. A very useful and hands-on resource every patient needs to know about. 🔹️Daniel Aebersold reminded the audience of the goal of innovation which is ”to achieve benefit for the patients”. One example is the startup Neosoma Inc. , a clinician-validated software platform with multiple disease-specific AI-driven tumor analysis modules. Alessandra Curioni Fontecedro provided research insights on lung cancer from bench to patient and back, i.e., reverse translation. 🔎Closing the day off with UK innovations Chirstopher Williams. followed up on reverse translational research, showing that asking research questions based on clinical trial outcomes is immensely helpful for biomarker discovery. 🤝 Many thanks to the entire sitem-insel AG for this great conference. We are already looking forward to its 2025 edition. 👇 Any other highlights you would like to share? Day 2 Highlights: #WeTechTogether Conference 2024 🎉 After the brilliant award ceremony on Friday evening, Lea Grüter addressed the audience with the question about a personal goal ‘What am I doing to make today a good day at the conference?’. 🎯 Priska Burkard personal goal was to focus on ‘allyship’ for diversity and inclusion so that we can achieve our goals and become stronger together! 💪 💼 In her keynote, Tanja Vainio outlined three essential success factors for advancing to senior management roles. With women still underrepresented in tech leadership (only 18%!), she emphasized the importance of: ➡ Skills – develop your talents throughout your career, continuously learn & upskill. Do not focus only on tech skills but also learn about financial management, business acumen, diplomacy, stakeholder management, humanity, and humility. ➡Mindset – Obstacles are not part of the journey, they are the journey. Self-doubt is in all of us, it is a universal experience, but communication is the key to learning feedback - empathy - adaptation from role models. ➡Support – Mentorship and sponsorship are equally important as they push us further and open new avenues. “What brought you here doesn't bring you there!”🚀 ☕ After a well-deserved coffee break filled with networking and conversations with exhibitors, 10 workshops took place. As Women+ in MedTeCH, we proudly led the workshop on ‘Women’s Health, Well-Being, and Workplace Influence’ with Ellen Kocher hosting 19 participants. With women making up nearly 50% of the global workforce, addressing health concerns in the workplace isn't just important—it’s essential! We explored how to create a more women-friendly work environment by discussing the four most common women’s health issues (cardiovascular diseases, cancer, reproductive and menstrual health, and mental health) and how medical technology innovations can provide solutions on eahc of these fields. Our goal? To foster open dialogue, close the data gap, and break the taboos surrounding women’s health. The two-hour session, filled with plenary and small group discussions, flew by! ⏳ We were also super happy to have Markus Macrini one of the few men attending the conference, join us—having him there, demonstrated why he was the right person to be part of the allyship panel later that day! ✨ Our workshop was a great success for us, as it showed us that we are on the right track with our topic and that other women and men are just as interested in it. A big thank you to all who joined us and to TechFace for organizing such a nice event! 💬 #WeTechTogether #WomenInSTEM #WomenInTech #DiversityAndInclusion #TechLeadership #WomenAndBeyondInMedTech TechFace.ch - Build Your Best Career In Tech Gabriella Skala, Stefanie Dobitz, Chloé Fattebert, Vida Vafaizadeh PhD, Laura Santos-Carreras, Albora de Pablo Peña, Jennifer L Abell - BS Eng, MBA, PMP® 🦋

🌟 Women+ in MedTeCH at #WeTechTogether Hidden Figures Awards 🌟 Missed the #WeTechTogether Hidden Figures Award Ceremony? Don’t worry! Here are the standout quotes that truly inspired us from the amazing women on stage: 🎤 The warm welcome and enthusiasm of Amila Redzic led us through the evening, which she moderated with lots of humor and - to quote her - “Gen Z English” 💡 Corinne Ruckstuhl reminded us in her opening speech that being authentic and being brave can look very different. But independently of the situation, both are of high value to you and the people around. 🌍 Dr. Fungai Mettler highlighted the global inequalities in access to essential resources like healthcare. Her commitment to creating positive social impact was truly inspirational. 📚 Lisa Weinzierl shared two of her learnings with us (1) learn fast, learn continuously and (2) not every problem is solvable with technology. 👏 The laudatio by Corina Schedler & Anais Salson highlighted that you should never be afraid to ask for help. More importantly they re-stated that all women are tired of events with no women on stage “as we could not find any” - The power of all the communities attending the event will for sure help you to discover suitable speakers. 💪 Priska Burkard emphasized how essential allyship is in creating lasting change. Last but for sure not least we would like to highlight the winners of the Hidden Figures Awards: 🏆 Non-Profit: Marion Schleifer, Co-Founder of Code Blossom 🏆 Startup/Innovation: Nina Habicht 🪄👀, AI products for UBS 🏆 Empowered Women: Edith Schnapper, SwissTecLadies and SATW 🏆 Diversity Ally: Dr. Mara Catherine Harvey, VP Bank And congratulations to all the nominees too! 💡How to create Workplaces where Women thrive ❓ The 4th edition of Deloitte’s Women @ Work: A Global Outlook surveyed 5,000 women across 10 countries. We would like to share with you the surveys key takeaways: 🚫 The stigma surrounding mental health continues to hinder women from seeking the support they need. In addition, women face unique health challenges such as menstrual pain, menopause, and fertility issues, often without adequate understanding or support in the workplace. 👩💼Despite progress, care work remains a female-dominated field, reinforcing traditional gender roles. Ensuring flexibility and work-life balance is essential for retaining women in the workforce, yet the reintroduction of return-to-office policies has made it more difficult to maintain this balance, even as hybrid work arrangements improve. 🚨Many women still feel unsafe in the workplace, as non-inclusive behaviors persist. Moreover, gender equality in leadership remains elusive, with female leaders in senior roles continuing to be a rarity. ➡ What can we do about these challenges? 🛠 Deloitte’s recommendations include: 1️⃣ Go beyond recognizing mental health by addressing workplace stress and taking action. 2️⃣ Support women’s health with open dialogue and allow time off when needed. 3️⃣ Address women’s safety concerns and promote family-friendly policies to enable work-life balance. 4️⃣ Assess the impact of return-to-office policies on women and tackle challenges. 5️⃣ Eliminate non-inclusive behaviors and support women’s right to speak up. 6️⃣ Strive to be Gender Equality Leader. 🚀 💬 How would you tackle these? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below. Post by: Stefanie Dobitz Full article source can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eCiB78pU
