🚨 #BREAKING: This is a code red for nature. Species population numbers have plummeted by 73% on average since 1970. This is getting worse over time, when it should be getting better. Vital ecosystems are on the brink of collapse. We’re dangerously close to tipping points, where the damage to our planet will cause irreversible impacts on all our lives. We must turn things around immediately. Urgent action is needed now – not tomorrow or next year. 🗣 Share this video to #ActForOurPlanet. https://lnkd.in/d-ESAMH #LPR2024 #LivingPlanetReport

Creating a world where people live in harmony with nature. Together, anything is possible.
Info
Nature is our life-support system. That’s why WWF – an independent conservation organization active in nearly 100 countries – is tackling the deepening crisis of nature loss caused by human activities. Our ambition is to set nature on the path to recovery in the coming decade for the benefit of people and wildlife. Working with many others, we must protect and restore natural habitats, stop the mass extinction of wildlife, and make the way we produce and consume sustainable. ============ General information Thank you for joining the WWF LinkedIn community. The Ecuadorian cloud forest – hidden in the Andes - is a biodiverse paradise veiled in mist ☁️ Beyond its mystic beauty, it's a superhero ecosystem. 🦋🌼 It protects us from floods, ensures a steady water supply, and even lends a hand (or a leaf) in pollination and pest control. This misty wonderland also welcomes eco-tourists, giving a boost to local communities and providing insights into climate change and biodiversity. Love this? Share it!

Wondering how your country is performing on its commitments to protect nature and reverse biodiversity loss? Explore WWF’s new #NBSAP Tracker! This tool evaluates how well countries are aligning their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) with the UN’s Global Biodiversity Framework to reverse biodiversity loss by 2030. Compare countries, see detailed assessments, and discover which nations are leading the charge—or falling behind. Together, we can push for stronger, more ambitious action to protect our planet. #NaturePositive #GBF2030 #COP16Colombia https://lnkd.in/eGgric2j

Single-use plastics are devastating ecosystems, particularly Fiji’s culturally iconic Sea Turtles. Shockingly, an estimated 52% of turtles worldwide have ingested plastic, mistaking it for food. 😢 We need a strong, global treaty to ban harmful plastics and protect our planet. 🌍 Visit banit.org to vote YES for a binding global plastic pollution treaty. Let’s help put nature on a path to recovery. 🌱

Yesterday I attended a high-level roundtable on biodiversity at #UNGA, where I had the invaluable opportunity to engage with world leaders on the vital steps needed to meet global Sustainable Development Goals. Together we evaluated progress toward halting and reversing nature loss ahead of the upcoming COP16 Colombia biodiversity conference in October. It was inspiring to witness the strong sense of urgency among key leaders to take decisive action for biodiversity, including new financial commitments and strategies pledging to conserve 30% of our planet by 2030. With less than six years remaining to meet the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework targets, we must take urgent action to confront the climate and nature crises. It is not enough to uphold our current global commitments; we must secure consistent and adequate funding. Importantly, these resources must be directed toward the people living and working closest to critical tipping points, ensuring both their livelihoods and the local ecosystems are protected. The time to act is now, and as we look toward upcoming milestones such as #COP16, we must elevate climate and nature to the top of the global political agenda. #ActForOurPlanet

Nature is in crisis – and it impacts each and every one of us. We need to reverse nature loss, ending the decade with more nature than we started with, not less. The key to this? The global finance system. 🗣 Leaders, businesses: The time to act is NOW. #WWFUntangled #UNGA
