"Do they have LTTP?" Often, Xilva is asked by #NbS investors what the team will need to start the due diligence of a forest project. It all begins with "LTTP". 🟩 Land :- Does the project have proper land rights and tenure for the project lifetime? 👥 Team :- Does the team have the necessary expertise and skills to navigate complexities in this current stage of the project, and in the future stage for which funding is requested? 📈 Track Record :- Has the project team successfully delivered sustainable forest projects before? What is their experience in this region? 🗺️ Plan :- Depending on the maturity stage of the project, do they have a sound concept plan / business plan / scale-up plan / action plan? 🌱 Starting with these four pillars ensures you are building on solid ground. 🎗️ Project Developers: make sure you have LTTP before you start your fundraising!

Are the #UN Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) still relevant? Xilva GRADE's 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 assessment has three thematic pillars where #nbs projects can make a positive impact: ✅ natural habitats, ✅ ecosystems and biodiversity, ✅ climate and society. The main goal of 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 assessment is to evaluate if and how the project is: A) protecting, conserving and enhancing biodiversity, ecosystems and ecological functions and processes; B) increasing carbon sequestration and mitigating global warming, and C) provisioning, supporting, regulating cultural services as well as socio-economic parameters to benefit the livelihoods of local communities. Adopting feedback from NbS impact & corporate investors, the Xilva GRADE framework is aligned with the #SustainableDevelopmentGoals. The SDGs and some of their targets are used as a reference list to score a project's positive effects and extent of "Do No Harm". See Diagram 2. Are the SDGs still relevant to you and your organisation? We'd love to hear from you 📭 . . Tim Duehrkoop Jamie Micah Lawrence Yeray Martínez Montesdeoca Núria Garcia-Forner Liling Koh

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝘂𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗥𝗥 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 ▶ Which data sources are you currently using for your due diligence process? ▶ How are you using third-party data to validate and verify claims made by ARR projects? Here are some examples of how we use data to perform a first sense check of #additionality claims in #ARR projects: 🔍 For restoration projects, we check that the rates at which carbon will be sequestered in aboveground live biomass as claimed by the project are similar to the values of a reference dataset for that project location. 🔍 We check the Net Primary Productivity (NPP)* reference dataset to evaluate if the project's additionality claims for carbon sequestration are realistic and of a similar magnitude as predicted in the project location. 🔍 Having done ~290 project assessments to date, we compare a project's carbon claims with other similar ones (in terms of intervention type, species, region) which we have previously assessed. . . . *𝘉𝘺 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘗𝘗 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮, 𝘴𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘣𝘰𝘯 𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘹𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘵 (𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘯 𝘢 𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘦, 𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘰𝘯) 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘱𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘵𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘱𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦. ❔ Questions? 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 & 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 -- do you know what to do with them? Here is an example of how we use data to assess the #wildfire risk of a project and its surroundings. 🔍 We pool and layer data from various sources to first generate an overview of the current fire risk. 📊 We use data to estimate, on a reasonable level, how the length of the forest fire season is expected to vary under various climate scenarios. 📈 We use data to forecast how the risk of severe fires may affect a project in the medium term. 3 samples of data sources used in Xilva GRADE: 1. 🌟 We are honoured to be selected by Serena's Managing Partner, Xavier Lorphelin as one of his top 5 picks of nature tech startups, and mentioned by ClimateHack's Laura Hodgkiss in her article. Investing in nature goes far beyond just supporting biodiversity or absorbing carbon. It also brings significant water benefits, from improving water quality to enhancing watershed resilience, and fosters significant social benefits, such as job creation, community well-being, and cultural preservation. The true value lies in the compounding effect of these impacts, where the synergy between environmental, social, and economic gains amplifies the overall positive outcomes, creating a more sustainable and equitable future for all. Xilva is fortunate to be working in this space with many other promising impact startups. We are on a mission to use due diligence as an enabler for the financing of nature-based projects by providing a standardized, data-driven framework and methodology to consistently evaluate nature-based projects, thereby building trust & confidence in nature investments. Thank you Xavier and Serena for sharing our mission and valuing what we do. 🔗 to article in Comments
