It’s great to see our Leica Geosystems part of Hexagon Public Safety Team sponsorship “paying forwards” to the next generations of Forensics Practitioners via the Cranfield Forensic Institute part of Cranfield University initiative. It feels so amazing when industry works together with academia in this way. #whenithastoberight #forensicshastoberight Leica Geosystems Public Safety, Security and Forensics
We’re incredibly proud of our students who this week completed their intensive Advanced CSI course at Cranfield University. It’s been a privilege to watch them grow into skilled and knowledgeable crime scene investigators. A huge thank you to our expert training partners for their invaluable contributions: Jo Millington for the BPA input, Gary Fretwell for the POLSA, Dr Deborah Ryder for Forensic Ecology and Entomology, Mary-Jane Harding PhD for her input on Fire Investigation down in Devizes. Laura Hugh - Sexual Offences, Kevin McGuire for kidnapping, Product Contamination and SIO role during the various scenarios, Helen Tarry for Sudden Unexplained Death, Matt Jones and Patch for Search Dog use, Kate Hewins PhD for Firearms and Ballistic and Tonja Fritz-Johnson for her photography input. A final ‘thank you’ goes to Sarah Thirkell, Jessica Adams and Melanie Lett for their hard work running sections of the course and supporting the students for the three weeks. We’re also grateful to Leica Geosystems Public Safety, Security and Forensics for sponsoring the crime house and to Cranfield Forensic Institute for providing their excellent facilities. #CranfieldUniversity #LeicaGeosystems #FTPTraining #CSITraining #AdvancedCSI #ForensicTraining #UK

Scanning Silver Mines and Ghost Towns Part 2: Part 2 of Frank Collazo and I’s journey took us above and below the historic ghost town of Cerro Gordo. Mapping with the BLK2GO started early as Brent and I descended below the hoist house over 900-ft working through the maze of tunnels and shafts, turning around at areas where sections of the mine had previously collapsed. As we traversed the underground, Frank autonomously mapped the towns rocky terrain and historic structures with the BLK2FLY. With the extreme versatility and ease of use, in as little as 4 hours the mine and ghost town were accurately mapped with the BLK2GO and BLK2FLY – a 20x time savings over previous methods. #leicageosystems #hexagonmining #blk2go #blk2Fly #realitycapture #hardrockmining

Proper visualizations require reconstructions. Our Digital Media Forensics process combines engineers and visualization experts to establish how an incident occurred, based on scientific analysis. Here’s a case where we had one surveillance video. Applying videogrammetry to the footage, we reconstructed the incident in 3D virtual space to show everyone’s movements. With this accurate reconstruction, now you can view the whole incident from alternative perspectives. Visualizations backed by engineering analysis allow Knott experts to show the incident in a more understandable way, while maintaining accuracy to defend them in court. #forensicengineering #visualization #attorneys
