It’s #PhageDay again! Every October 22, we celebrate the groundbreaking discovery of bacteriophages, made over 100 years ago by Frederick Twort and Félix d'Hérelle, who named them after the Greek word “phagein,” meaning “to devour,” referencing their ability to destroy bacteria. Initially overshadowed by antibiotics in the early 20th century, bacteriophages are now making a powerful comeback as a sustainable solution to multi-drug-resistant bacteria. Let’s celebrate these incredible viral warriors today. #Microbiology #Phages #PhageHistory #PhageLab

Yes, we believe in science deeply, but also, as our CEO Hans Pieringer says, "We believe in products that evolve with data and adapt over time, not in static formulas that endure for decades." Check out the full conversation with Diario Sustentable at our HQ. #ScienceWorks #Poultry #Phages

Superbugs could be attributed to over 39 million deaths by 2050 according to a new study by the Global Research on Antimicrobial Resistance (GRAM) Project published in The Lancet. Although deaths related to drug resistance are decreasing among young children due to better vaccination and hygiene, the study forecasts a sharp increase in AMR-related deaths among the elderly. Phages offer a promising alternative or complement to traditional drugs against bacteria. Unlike antibiotics, which target a broad range of pathogenic agents, phages are highly specific, reducing the risk of antimicrobial resistance. This precision makes phages a great asset in fighting resistant infections. The time to take action is now. The research: https://lnkd.in/e8XJcQ7Y #ScienceWorks #AMR #GlobalHealth

Listen to what Pablo Cifuentes Palma sees as a very bright future for phage therapy in the podcast #TheFutureOfPoultry, by 🐓 WATT Poultry. Our CTO had a great conversation with Mark K Clements; they talked about how phages are a powerful tool, their synergy with antibiotics, and why our proven results on farms make what lies ahead so promising for this technology. #ScienceWorks #Poultry #Phages

Did you know your gut has its own hidden world? It's called the phageome, and it's full of tiny viruses called phages that regulate the bacterial populations inside you. Wherever there are bacteria, there are phages, so it’s no surprise they can be found across different environments in nature, animals, and humans. The coolest part? Phages are so specific that a fraction of them can target harmful bacteria, helping to prevent or treat infections. Wanna see how they look from up close? Check the image to see a real phage from our library. #ScienceWorks #Phages #Bacteria
