A very interesting innovation summit today with a theme of Innovate for Impact, held by Schneider Electric a multinational corporation that specializes in digital automation and energy management with IoT and AI for energy saving and sustainability in all areas of the electricity empowered ecosystem, and recently stated as the #1 Most Sustainable Company in the World by TIME Magazine. So a great opportunity to see what organisations are doing regarding sustainability in other sector’s outside of Aviation and take a look around their Innovation Hub incorporating their full product range. Obviously it was predominantly building, data centre, and infrastructure orientated as you can imagine, but did also include key speakers from transport such as MTR Corporation Limited 香港鐵路有限公司, as well as Powergen in the form of CLP, two areas the Aviation Services Research Centre (ASRC) are supporting with sustainable I&T solutions. Our very own Dr. Aditya G. a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Aviation Services Research Centre (ASRC) has been attending this weeks International Conference on Indoor Positioning and Indoor Navigation (IPIN), in support of our active Aerostructure Digital Twin (AeDiT) project. AeDiT incorporates automatic geolocation mapping of damage detection on aircraft via IoT connectivity of inspection devices such as Hyperspectral Camera's, Ultrasound, Eddy Current, or Vision Systems operated via Humans, Drones, AGV's, or other Robotic Systems such as RK-9’s. It was a pleasure to host a class of students from Yew Chung International School to the Aviation Services Research Centre (ASRC), University 3D Printing Department (U3DP), and the School of Fashion and Textiles (SFT). The students aged between 14-16 were extremely enthusiastic to see first hand some of the academic and research opportunities that the The Hong Kong Polytechnic University offers, and hopefully we were able to further cultivate their dreams and ambitions to become the engineers and designers of tomorrow. The Aviation Services Research Centre (ASRC) Team along with our PhD Student Bo Ching Wong are proud to be part of an interdisciplinary research publication with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Research Institute for Advanced Manufacturing of the The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Well that was a hectic week for all the team at the Aviation Services Research Centre (ASRC), with #MROAP in Singapore and so many great interaction’s, then our Technical Advisory Committee Meeting and Board of Governors Meeting back in Hong Kong with our long term friends and colleagues at Boeing, plus visits to the ASRC from COMAC as well as the China Association for Science and Technology, all in the same week.
