    The Chinese economy has been facing headwinds for several months now, grappling with lingering pandemic effects, a slowdown, and persistent deflation. 😷📉 These factors have eroded international confidence in China's economic outlook. 📉 In response, the People’s Bank of China announced a “bazooka” package - a stimulus policy aimed to revitalize the economy by injecting liquidity into the financial system, reducing interest rates and supporting the property market. 🚀💰🏠 What the stimulus has achieved: 1️⃣ Strong market response: Stock markets in Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong saw their biggest weekly rise in 16 years. 📈 Home sales also rose over the National Day holiday. 🏠 2️⃣ Interest rate cuts: The cuts to existing mortgages is expected to increase the annual discretionary incomes of 50 million households by 150 billion RMB in total, which will unleash effective demand for consumption, vital for China’s macroeconomy. 💰💳 Reasons to be (cautiously) optimistic: 1️⃣ Optimism: There are already promising signs of improved confidence from not only the Chinese, but also the global markets. 🤩🌎 2️⃣ Shift in policy: Most importantly of all, this unexpected “gift” signals the beginning of the Chinese government’s departure from its previous emphasis on the long-term, supply-side economics to a more candid and pragmatic attitude to the short-term, demand side and its determination to use more aggressive policy tools to prop up the economy. 🔄 3️⃣ Too early to tell: While these measures should help stabilize the ailing housing market, they might potentially deteriorate banks’ asset quality and financial stability. ⚠️ 4️⃣ What lies ahead: But Beijing has always had more levers to pull than other governments to alter the direction of the economy, and it finally appears to be more eager about pulling them. 🛠 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gdy8Av64
