As we mourn the losses from climate disasters caused by the fossil fuel industry, which continues to drill and burn while people suffer, there’s an urgent need for more people to know the culprits behind the climate crisis. To reach a broader audience, Greenpeace East Asia is launching an animated comedy series, #MyPetFootprint, in collaboration with the award-winning studio Wit & Wisdom. We are honored to have the award-winning environmentalist, #surfer, and ocean champion Tim Silverwood joining us as an animated character to promote the show—be sure to watch till the end! ;) Sign up now for a chance to be animated! We had an amazing experience at the “Global Shifts, Local Actions: Championing a Plastic-Free Future through the Power of Reuse” seminar aboard the legendary Rainbow Warrior, hosted by Greenpeace East Asia! 🌿 It was inspiring to see so many passionate leaders from Hong Kong, Japan, and Taiwan come together, all driven by a shared vision for a plastic-free future. The panels were buzzing with energy, exploring how businesses can lead the way in building sustainable, reusable solutions. Special thanks to @Dr. Samuel Chui-Dir from the Environmental Protection Department and Mr. Lam Chiu Ying, Hong Kong’s renowned meteorologist, for their insightful talks that got us all thinking. 🌏 We’re especially proud of our own Natasha Kakkar Chawla for stepping up and representing Muuse, sharing how we’re making reuse practical, scalable, and impactful. 💚 Big shoutout to Greenpeace for bringing this incredible event together and to our inspiring speakers: Amy LAI, Benjamin Steuer, Duan Yuan, Leanne Tam, Meike Sauerwein, PhD, Pang Cheung Sze, Sabrina Wang, and Yuichi Yoshimura. This is just the start. Together, we’re turning big ideas into real action — and we’re excited to see where this movement takes us next. 💪♻️ #Muuse #Greenpeace #ReuseRevolution #CircularEconomy #HongKong

【2nd Global Plastics Treaty Symposium on 2nd Oct went super successful!】 A long overdue but here I am. It was a fantastic event we organised together with ICLEI Japan (Togo Uchida). #PlasticsTreaty #PlasticTreaty 🇺🇳More than 100 people joined to discuss the Treaty! The session started with a remark by MP Hiroyoshi Sasagawa and a key note speech by Prof Tomohiro Tasaki. Followed by my presentation and two interactive sessions with the Ministry of the Environment, Business, NGO, Youth, and others. ♳More business are speaking up for "Global Production Target" I was genuinely surpised that many business who are innovating ways to recycle and upcycle were saying to me that production reduction is needed. They know that as long as subsidied virgin plastics exist, no amount of innovation would be sufficient to scale up any alternative business models. People I thought might not agree with our argument are realising the economic argument for the global production reduction target. ♴More politicians joined our event than ever. Thanks to our team effort, we had 4 members of parliament joined our session. It is showing the interests by policy makers in this critical issue but also their willingness to engage with us. ♵Plastics Disclosure is coming and business has to understand that Carbon Disclosure Project kindely accepted our invitation to join the panel and it was indeed interesting. While the number of companies are not as high as for the climate questions, a substantive number of businesses started to report on their plastics. In order for them to make sense in transition away from fossil fuels and gain access to alternatives to single use plastics, such as reuse, the global rules and reduction of production remain crucial. ♶So more work is needed in Japan! Against the backdrop of the US shifting its position to accept the global polymer production reduction, Japan is under the strong pressure to be more ambitious, following other G7 countries. Together with other groups, we will do our best to show what is actually good for Japan and its people.

🌈 🕊️ The Rainbow Warrior is currently on a mission: Plastic Free Future Now! Plastic pollution is flooding our ocean and planet! It's killing marine life, devastating biodiversity, and plastic production is fueling the climate crisis. 🐬🐋 🐟 In November, world leaders will be gathering in South Korea to discuss a Global #PlasticsTreaty to cut plastic production and end single-use plastic! 👇 Support the Rainbow Warrior and support a plastic free future! https://lnkd.in/eDdXeZzq 🎨 Wit & Wisdom

Ahead of the #GlobalPlasticsTreaty negotiation #INC5 Greenpeace East Asia held a creative parade today in the Linyuan Petrochemical Industrial Zone in #Kaohsiung to challenge #petrochemical expansion in #Taiwan, centered around Mazu, a popular folk deity known for watching over the people. 99% of plastic comes from petrochemicals and natural gas. According to the latest research from Wood Mackenzie, global petrochemical capacity has been in oversupply in recent years, with Asia facing a structural surplus, leading to persistently low or even negative profit margins. To become a leader in plastic reduction, Taiwanese government must promptly evaluate the local petrochemical and plastic production, speed up the phase-out of single-use plastic, and set ambitious goals for reuse economy system.

Greenpeace's flagship, #RainbowWarrior was in #Taiwan as part of its East Asia expedition in support of the #GlobalPlasticsTreaty, unveiling Taiwan’s first systematic research on plastic nurdles sampling, showing pollutions from the #petrochemical industry. According to Fidra, a global organization monitoring #nurdle pollution, approximately 10 trillion nurdles—equivalent to 450,000 tons—are lost into the natural environment annually during production or transportation. Once they enter ecosystems, they are nearly impossible to remove, making them the second-largest source of microplastic pollution in the global oceans. Associate Professor Ruei-Feng Shiu from the National Taiwan Ocean University emphasized, “This is Taiwan’s first systematic sampling survey targeting plastic nurdles, and the preliminary results show pollution across all four surveyed beaches. Corporations have a responsibility to reduce or completely prevent the leakage of plastic nurdles." More>> https://lnkd.in/dRXGexxW

Spot the difference: "electric" car vs "electrified" car 👀 Confused? You're not alone, and it's exactly your confusion that #Toyota is counting on when it bigs up its "electrified" car range in its adverts. Electrified sounds like electric. But don't be fooled. #Electrified, in most cases, actually means hybrid i.e. powered by fossil fuels. In fact, Toyota only produces one #electric #car and is a major opponent of widespread electric car use. Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda repeatedly speaks publicly against EVs, the company pursues a "hybrid first" commercial strategy whilst downplaying the popularity of EVs, and Toyota even threatened to end UK production altogether unless the zero emission vehicle mandate was watered down. Misleading #marketing like "electrified" allows Toyota to cash in on its #green credentials whilst doing nothing to meaningfully reduce emissions (which are increasing year on year and stand higher than BP's). So don't believe the ads. Electrified is one big lie.

Breaking: Hyundai Motor Company (현대자동차) has launched its #IPO in #India. It signals the country’s importance to the automaker — but Hyundai’s #CarbonNeutrality efforts in India remain far behind. "#ElectricVehicles accounted for approximately one out of 500 Hyundai vehicles sold in India in 2023 and one in 1000 during the first half of 2024. While Hyundai has made progress on #electrification in North America and Europe, in India the automaker’s progress has stalled."--Hyeran Hong, climate and energy campaigner, Greenpeace East Asia "Hyundai must work towards fostering mobility solutions that reduce emissions, improve accessibility, contribute to India’s broader climate goals, and also tackle air pollution. By doing so, it can play a pivotal role in transforming India’s #transportation landscape for a cleaner and greener future.”--Sharat M.S., climate campaigner, Greenpeace India Learn more>>https://lnkd.in/dhNjNUjn #DriveChange #zeroemissions #SustainableTransportation #ActOnClimate
