Very good multi core performance. Performance per watt is not too bad. Single core performance is its main downside. However, it makes a pretty good high end build for a good price, personally I think it beats out the i7-8700k.

Ryzen 7 2700X owners listen up; stop "overclocking" this CPU to 4.1-4.2 GHz. Did you happen to notice on the box that it has a 4.3 GHz boost speed? You might be getting better overall multi-core (all-core) performance, particularly if you don't have the greatest cooling solution, but you're hurting your single-core performance, which may also be hurting your performance in games. This CPU is smarter than you are. With 2nd gen Ryzen (Zen+), AMD has improved SenseMI with Extended Frequency Range (XFR) 2 and Precision Boost (PB) 2 having more aggressive algorithms that will boost more cores to higher frequencies if you keep it cool (AMD says 60°C or below is best, which can be very difficult to achieve). In fact, that 4.3 GHz printed on the box is actually more like 4.35 GHz and it will definitely boost to that speed on individual cores, even using the stock cooler (which is pretty decent). That is, of course, if you don't do a locked-in, manual, all-core "overclock" because you're unlikely to achieve 4.3-4.35 GHz. If you really feel like you need to overclock, do a PBO overclock so that you can still get those high single-core speeds. The only exception to this might be for content creators/rendering workloads or running all-core benchmarks like Cinebench because the CPU will likely never boost itself as high as you might be able to get it on all cores due to its built-in temperature thresholds via SenseMI.

Playing Subnautica at maximum settings with a 1070 Ti, and the CPU's maximum load across all cores was 33%. That leaves a lot of wiggle room for OBS, and other tasks on the second monitor.

Bit jumpy on voltages but stays pretty much at 4000mhz on all cores. No need to overclock it as you won't see much of an improvement. Stock cooler not good enough to keep up while gaming in ultra settings.

Ryzen has improved the Memory Latency and the Overclock Potential in the second gen of Ryzen (Zen+) but still a little bit behind the 8700K, but keep in mind that you will get a 8Core CPU + one beautiful Stock Cooler which its much better for non-Gamers; Ryzen Gaming Is Good But Not Perfect, for example, u will get 140FPS with Ryzen when 8700K gives you 155FPS, I personally Use 1700X for Gaming and its very good but not Perfect, keep in mind.

Paired with a GTX1080 this is a beast, great fps in 4k gaming and 4k video editing. Great value for money and includes a Wraith cooler that will cope with most scenarios when overclocked to ~4.1GHz maximum.

Using one right now, and I must say that the cooler is the only bad part of the whole package. The processor overclocks acceptably with the stock cooler under even heavy loads. Destroys video editing or photo editing. Great buy even if only used in gaming, but better used for both of the worlds, gaming and editing or work related.

Best zen+ cpu and a very good budget 8 core 16 thread cpu. Comes with wraith prism which is really good at cooling this cpu if little bit more noise isn't a problem for you. Even tho its good, ryzen 5 3600 is a better cpu. It uses less power for the same performance, you can find ryzen 5 3600 for cheaper and use it with much cheaper motherboard.

Horribly disappointing. The multi-core gains over the 8700K are unimpressive, minimal - and for it you sacrifice a huge amount of more basic performance. If their target market was content creators, they've failed. Anyone who doesn't have a dedicated production machine - freelancers and other small-business creators - will have one mutlipurpose machine. This chip's the same price as the 8700K so there's not even the advantage of saving your budget. For these piddly multi-core gains, which will make rendering and production *slightly* faster, you have a slower desktop, gaming machine, everything else. Ugh. Fail.

I was so excited to socket my Anniversary edition into my pc, that I forgot to uninstall all AMD drivers, spent all night triggering bluescreens while attempting to uninstall these drivers. Not gonna blame AMD for my own mistake of leaving old chipset drivers from my R7 1800X on my pc. Can't wait to benchmark it. 4ghz all core turbo on 33°C idle in Taskmanager is already looking rock solid, and that's while I was fixing this mess.

This processor is a monster. Once did a stress test by opening all 8 of my Adobe CC apps I use at the same time, and it loaded them all in less than 40 seconds using only 30% of my 32GB of RAM. Sure, the i7 and i9 are technically better, but this this is an absurdly powerful processor for photography and 1080p video.
