🚀 A major milestone for the REFRESH project! As a partner of the Projekt Refresh (Research Excellence For REgion Sustainability and High-tech Industries), we are pleased to announce that today marks the launch of its largest construction phase. 🏗️ The new building, part of the Industry 4.0 & Automotive Lab within the REFRESH project, will provide state-of-the-art facilities for around fifty researchers. In cutting-edge laboratories, they will focus on developing technologies for manufacturing digitalisation and autonomous mobility. 🚗 Additionally, a dedicated test polygon for smart vehicles and mobile robots will be built right on the Vysoká škola báňská - Technická univerzita Ostrava campus, further strengthening the Region’s innovation ecosystem. 💬"Thanks to these new facilities, we will be able to contribute to the Region’s transformation and industrial innovation by developing new technologies for manufacturing digitalisation and autonomous mobility. Our research spans artificial intelligence, machine learning, digital twins, advanced signal processing, and image and lidar data analysis, among other areas," explained Petr Šimoník, Scientific Director of the Industry 4.0 & Automotive Lab for the REFRESH project, and Vice-Dean for Cooperation with Industry at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, VSB-TUO. 🔎 Read more at https://lnkd.in/e2Cn9fdF. #ProjektREFRESH #Industry40 #AutonomousMobility #Digitalisation

At FIP-AI@VSB-TUO, we are proud to showcase research that bridges the gap between science and industry. The recent publication, Segmentation and Metallographic Evaluation of Aluminium Slurry Coatings Using Machine Learning Techniques, also supported by the Projekt Refresh, exemplifies this commitment. Researchers from the IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center at Vysoká škola báňská - Technická univerzita Ostrava and Fraunhofer ICT have introduced a novel methodology for segmenting and assessing diffusion coatings used in steel surface treatments. Published in the journal High Temperature Corrosion of Materials, their innovative approach enables the optimisation of coatings to enhance resistance to high temperatures and corrosion, contributing to the development of specialised materials suited for various demanding environments.
