One of France's best-known angel investors, Vera joined the firm over the summer to lead the Early-Stage VC strategy and has already led one investment out of the Resilience 1 fund. Born and raised in San Francisco, Vera looks back on a successful entrepreneurial background in political fundraising and strategy in Washington D.C.  More than a decade ago, she moved to Paris plunging into the #FrenchTech ecosystem. Quickly establishing herself as a key figure in Paris’ tech scene, she has taken several operational and advisory roles in startups and accelerators since. In 2021, she began Angel investing as an Atomico Angel. Her portfolio has quickly grown to 30 impact startups in Europe and the US. Among them, Emidat, Climate X, Green-Got, and Planet FWD. 🌍 Decarbonization is a MASSIVE opportunity. The global Carbon Credit market alone is a $2.4 trillion opportunity by 2027 that You Can’t Ignore!🌳 But there is a catch ... 📌McKinsey estimates that we need to invest about $275 trillion USD in low-emission assets to reach net zero by 2050. 🤨 The catch however is that not all carbon removal methods contribute equally. 🖖 So we at 4P CAPITAL are diving deeper into the world of carbon credits and innovative decarbonization technologies to understand which of the methods are the most impactful. Here are 5 that we find to be most exciting: 1️. Assisted Natural Regeneration (ANR): Enhancing nature's own carbon-capturing abilities. We're excited about companies using Technologies for precision reforestation and advanced monitoring techniques. 2️. Direct Air Capture (DAC): Literally sucking CO2 out of the air. Companies like Climeworks' new DAC plant - the 'Mammoth' in Iceland has an annual carbon capture capacity of 36,000 metric tons. Our radar is on startups developing more energy-efficient DAC systems and innovative carbon storage solutions in traditional industries. 3️. Enhanced Weathering (EW): Supercharging natural geological processes. Spreading powdered rock over just 2% of croplands could remove up to 2 billion tonnes of CO2 annually. We're looking at technology enablers that can unlock this at scale including ocean-based EW methods. 4️. Biochar: Reverse Coal Mining turning biomass into stable carbon. Biochar is a carbon-negative wonder material and can remain stable in soil for thousands of years, dating to over 6,000 years old. We are looking for companies scaling up production and finding novel applications beyond agriculture. 5️. Algae-based Capture: Harnessing the power of photosynthesis. Algae can absorb more CO2 than trees because they can cover more surface areas and grow faster. We are looking at breakthroughs in algae strain development, bioreactor design, harvesting, and measurement that will be critical to the use of Algae in CO2 reduction.
