The country aims to expand its renewable energy capacity, particularly focusing on offshore wind farms to harness its coastal wind resources more effectively. Recently, Portugal has seen increased investment in floating offshore wind technology, positioning itself as a key player in this emerging sector. Government policies are supportive, aiming to achieve ambitious renewable energy targets in the coming years, which include substantial contributions from wind power. One notable project in Portugal's wind energy sector is the WindFloat Atlantic project. Located off the coast of Viana do Castelo, it involves the installation of floating wind turbines, which represent a significant advancement in offshore wind technology. This project aims to demonstrate the feasibility and scalability of floating offshore wind farms in deep waters, potentially opening up new areas for renewable energy development.
