🚀 A4CLIMATE kicks off! 🚀 Contrails significantly contribute to global warming from air traffic. Mitigating their effects could halve aviation’s effective radiative forcing within a decade. It is with this ambition in mind that the 17 partners forming the A4CLIMATE consortium gathered at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Oberfaffenhofen. Over 2 days filled with presentations and discussions, drawing on each other’s expertise, partners have launched this 4-year interdisciplinary collaboration with the goal of better understanding contrails and their climate impact as well as possible mitigation measures. It is an honor and privilege to coordinate the SGLT2 HYPE project at the Universitätsklinikum Schleswig-Holstein and Universität zu Lübeck together with my clinic director, Prof. Dr. Ingo Eitel. With €6.99 million in EU funding, our trial aims to transform hypertension management and improve the health and quality of life for millions of patients. Hypertension affects more than 80 million people in the EU, making it the most relevant modifiable risk factor for premature mortality. Every second adult over 50 is affected, yet despite existing therapies, the risk of severe complications such as myocardial infarction or stroke remains high. The SGLT2 HYPE project aims to evaluate whether dapagliflozin, a well-established therapy for heart failure and diabetes, can also effectively lower blood pressure and reduce cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in patients with hypertension by leveraging its pleiotropic effects. With 17 partners from 13 European countries, we are committed to generating evidence-based insights that advance therapy and raise awareness of the importance of blood pressure management.
