𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗔𝗺𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝘆? Welcome to #TakeOffThursday, where we share key facts about the #Grille each week. Today’s focus is the Grille’s 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁. ⛑️ What started as "flying stretcher" has evolved into a #RescueDrone. By combining the latest developments in #MedicalSensor technology with pre-flight stabilization measures, we’ve developed a #MedicalCabin that provides continuous monitoring of vital signs and psychological support. 🩺❤️🩹 Our concept also considers ground operations; thanks to the Grille's modular design, the cabin can be swapped quickly to reduce downtime and maximize hygiene. We believe the Grille can become another #GuardianAngel for our troops. Join us on this journey! 🦗

Info
Since 2021, AVILUS has been developing the fully electric multicopter “Grille” (English: Cricket), which is tailored to the military evacuation of wounded soldiers. The range of around 50 km and the transport capacity of approximately 135 kg are sufficient to transport wounded combatants from areas near the frontlines to field hospitals (e.g., ROLE2). The UAV's mission is monitored from a mobile control room, the so-called Patient Evacuation Coordination Cell (PECC), which is integrated into the back of a truck. When developing the system, the focus lied on military requirements right from the beginning. This manifests e.g., in the structural concept: it takes two soldiers and 15 minutes to transition from a transportable to an operational state of the drone. Furthermore, the aircraft can be stored and transported on a standard trailer, which serves as a take-off and landing platform. The avionics were also selected according to military requirements and, in addition to jamming resilience, offer other important advantages such as connectivity to battle management systems. To keep the training effort for the remote crew as low as possible, we enable flight requests, flight planning, flight dispatch and monitoring within the battle management system. The UAV has been in flight testing since 2022.

Welcome to #TakeOffThursday, where we share key facts about the #Grille each week. Today’s focus is on 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀. 🛡️ #Redundancy is one of our core design principles. To assure low failure probabilities, we’ve implemented multiple layers of redundancy and fail-safe mechanisms to protect both the patient and the ground crew operating the drone. Amongst others, these safety features include redundant #Powertrain components, #Avionic and #DataLink backups, and a remote power activation system to ensure the ground crew's safety. 🚁 We are committed to assuring that no single point of failure in the system can compromise the #safety of patients, troops, or operators.⛑️ Tell us in the comments, what else would you like to know about the #Grille? 🦗

What does it take to be a #TestPilot at AVILUS? 👨✈️👩✈️ It’s more than sunglasses and a helmet — it’s about rational decisions, focus, and strict adherence to procedures and limits both during flight and in training. Our #TestPilots operate the aircraft in accordance with flight test cards that describe the mission tasks in detail. Therewith, we collect #FlightTest data and verify requirements necessary for design assurance. 🛡️ Got a passion for #flying drones and ready to take your skills to new heights? 🚁 Join our flight crew. How do we ensure the stable flight of our aircraft? Welcome to #TakeOffThursday, where we share a key facts about the Grille each week. Today’s focus is on 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 & 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹. 🚁 In essence, it all comes down to our #FlightControlSystem design and a rigorous stability and robustness analysis. Our high-fidelity flight physical simulation models that we develop in-house, enable tuning the gains and parameters of the flight controller. We conduct several tests, starting with worst-case scenario analysis using a custom counter-optimization tool, #COLIBRI, developed by TUM Institute of Flight System Dynamics. This is followed by extensive software and hardware testing, finally, our pilots assess the system's response in a controlled and non-controlled environment. Stay tuned for more updates about the Grille! 🦗
