Is the impression correct that sustainable investments are currently on the defensive? If so, is this just a temporary weakness or a long-term trend? Was sustainability perhaps just a fad? These are just some of the very interesting questions that my Shareholders for Change colleague, Julius van Sambeck from Ethius Invest Schweiz and I were asked recently by the German financial magazine Private Banker - Das Vermögensverwalter eMagazin. 💡 ⁉ What is your opinion on the questions raised - looking forward to reading about them in the comments? My answer was: "We are seeing political shifts, the rise of populist and right-wing tendencies worldwide. Ultimately, this also has an impact on sustainable investment. However, it is not sustainability that is the fad, but the political backward-looking attitude towards sustainability. People may allow themselves to be dazzled in the short term, and social imbalances contribute to this. However, it is a fact that we are reaching planetary boundaries, and not just in distant times and countries, but right on our doorstep. This cannot be denied in the long term. Some Investors will continue to use the sustainability bandwagon to jump on and off opportunistically, but in the longer term, sustainability will inevitably prevail."
