Thanks to the generosity of our guests and sponsors, we raised an astonishing $4.7 million – all of which will be dedicated to helping blood cancer patients in need of a life-saving stem cell transplant. ❤️ A heartfelt thank you to our Chairwoman, Katharina Harf, who hosted the event with unwavering passion and commitment, driving forward our mission to delete blood cancer. The most magical moment of the night was the emotional first-time meeting between Justin Bradshaw, a 36-year-old donor from Texas, and Brooklynn, the 11-year-old girl from Kansas whose life he saved. Justin registered with DKMS in 2018 and donated his stem cells in 2023 to give Brooklynn, who was battling Severe Aplastic Anemia, a second chance at life. This powerful reunion reminded us all why we fight so hard to continue this life-saving work. ❤️ We were honored to celebrate the extraordinary Vera Wang, whose long-standing dedication to our cause was recognized during the evening. The night was made even more special by the incredible Mario Cantone, who energized the auction with his charisma, and the breathtaking performance by Andra Day, whose voice moved everyone in the room. 🎶 None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of our long-time partner Coty. 🌍✨ Celebrating a Major Milestone: 100,000 Potential Donors at DKMS Africa! 🎉💪 In just three years, over 100,000 South Africans have stepped up and registered as potential stem cell donors with DKMS Africa. This is a remarkable achievement, not only because of the sheer number of donors but because of the diversity within our donor base – with 8% Asian, 9% Coloured, 38% Black, and 45% White donors. This growth is helping us give more patients battling blood cancer and disorders the chance to find a life-saving match, improving their odds with each new donor. And this is of course just the beginning of DKMS Africa representing the generosity, compassion, and kindness of so many incredible individuals. 🏥 𝗗𝗞𝗠𝗦 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲-𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 – 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀! In Chile, 50% of pediatric blood cancer patients come from rural areas, but life-saving stem cell transplants are only carried out in Santiago, capital of Chile. This is a significant problem, as many families cannot afford the additional costs of accommodation in Santiago during their child's treatment. To provide support for patients and their families, DKMS has partnered with Fundación Casa Familia. For a minimum of 18 months, DKMS will cover the monthly accommodation costs for four young blood cancer patients and their caregivers. This ensures that they have a safe place to stay during their treatment, which is crucial to providing timely access to life-saving transplants. 🏠❤️ “With this contribution, we are solving a critical shortage in transplant care and are creating better conditions for patients from the regions,” emphasizes Dr. Elke Neujahr, CEO of DKMS Global. Every year, Casa Familia offers a temporary home to around 85 pediatric patients and their families. Thanks to DKMS, more families can now be supported and the long waiting lists shortened. “We hope that even more stakeholders will support this important work, as demand will continue to grow,” says Mónica Gana Arteaga, executive director of Casa Familia. 𝗔 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀. 🚒❤️ Four years ago, Polish firefighters committed to supporting the Fundacja DKMS. What began with firefighter Sławomir Kowalczyk's selfless bone marrow donation has developed into a unique partnership. Since then, hundreds of brave firefighters have scaled Poland's highest peaks every year in full uniform - not for themselves, but to raise awareness of the life-saving power of stem cell donations. Thanks to them, thousands of new potential donors have registered, who may soon save the life of another person. But now the tables have turned: after the disastrous floods in southern Poland, it is the firefighters who need our help. For Fundacja DKMS, there was no question that they would abandon these heroes. Together with the Związek Ochotniczych Straży Pożarnych RP (Association of Volunteer Fire Brigades of the Republic of Poland), 150,000 PLN was donated for urgently needed equipment, which Agnieszka Wodzińska and her team transported to southern Poland to support the emergency services - because they too are on the front line, fighting to save lives. Working so closely and cordially with our partners is something that moves us deeply. We are also particularly proud of the employees of Fundacja DKMS, who have helped with personal donations of items such as rubber boots, cleaning supplies and disinfectants.
