These vessels will incorporate state-of-the-art energy efficiency solutions and utilize advanced real-time performance data analysis to maximize efficiency and minimize emissions.   But innovation does not stop with our newbuilds. As part of our commitment to energy efficiency and decarbonization, we are also investing in our existing fleet. In 2025, we will upgrade a number of vessels with advanced technology to significantly decrease energy consumption.   Despite the challenges of high newbuilding costs and extended delivery times, we remain committed to providing world-class, safe, and low-emission transport solutions.   Sustainable. We are pleased to announce that companies belonging to the DAL / Essberger Group have signed additional two 13,000 DWT, 1A ice-class, stainless steel chemical tankers at Rainbow Shipyard (Nantong), China. This brings the total number of firm orders in this series to four (4). These vessels reflect our commitment to the highest levels of safety, quality and fuel efficiency. Additionally, we have secured options for four more vessels of this type.   Our new tankers are equipped with innovative engines capable of running on methanol, allowing us to meet the future demands for environmentally friendly fuels. We are very pleased to announce that Malte W. has been appointed as the successor Jan Eghøj as Head of E&S Tankers. Malte Willer has a strong knowledge of the European chemical tanker market and together with the rest of the E&S team will continue the strategic path to remain the market leader in the European short sea market. The handover process is progressing very well and will be completed by mid-August when Jan Eghoej will leave the company and Malte will take over as Managing Director of E&S Tankers. At the same time, we are very pleased to announce that Christian Vang will take up the role of Commercial Director E&S Tankers, heading the chartering department. Christian brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise from the shipbroking and chartering side, having previously managed all spot activities within E&S Tankers. We would like to thank Jan Eghoej for all his efforts in transforming the company together with the team to become much more customer centric based on long term partnerships with our valued customers. Overheating Shipbuilding Market Threatens Chemical Supply Chain At John T. Essberger GmbH & Co KG, we remain committed to providing safe and reliable service to our long-term partners in the European chemical supply chain. The current surge in shipbuilding activity is driving up prices and pushing delivery dates far into the future, posing a significant threat to the chemical supply chain. The industry, already strained by disruptions, now faces potential vessel supply shortages due to exorbitant costs and extended lead times for new chemical tankers. We plan to order up to 10 methanol dual-fuel tankers, highlighting the urgency of fleet renewal. However, our search for suitable shipyards in China, Japan, Turkey, and South Korea is hampered by high prices and limited availability, with some yards booked until 2027 and 2028. The dilemma is clear: if the price is acceptable and shipyards can deliver, we can proceed with orders for up to 10 ships. With 25% to 30% of the European fleet aging, timely renewal is critical, but not at an unsustainable cost. A viable strategy to mitigate these risks is to extend the life of well-maintained stainless steel tankers. Reputable owners with a proven track record can ensure these vessels remain safe, reliable, and efficient, alleviating immediate pressure on the supply chain. Our focus on dual-fuel, methanol-ready ships aims to reduce CO2 emissions when green fuels become available, future-proofing our fleet. However, finding shipyards that can meet these specifications remains a challenge. To ensure the stability of the supply chain, the industry needs to work together, explore alternatives, and make compromises. In conclusion, maintaining existing tankers while strategically planning for newbuildings can help navigate the overheated market. We need to adopt flexible, innovative solutions to sustain operations and meet future demands, ensuring the chemical supply chain remains robust and reliable.
