  • 20 years for a pencil? Hard to imagine, but yes, that’s actually how long it takes us to produce a wood-cased pencil, because that's how long it takes to go from seedling to a finished product.   We use sustainably grown wood for our graphite and coloured pencils, most of which comes from FSC®-certified (Forest Stewardship Council) pine forests in Prata, Brazil. The forests we manage cover an area the size of 11,000 football pitches. They not only provide us with our key resource, wood, but are also a valuable ecosystem that contributes to climate protection and biodiversity.   Since the 1980s, we have been committed to this unique forest project in Brazil. With foresight and dedication, we cultivate around 4.5 million pine trees and plant 300,000 new seedlings every year to ensure consistent reforestation. We also leave a quarter of the forest in its natural state, home to 467 tree species from 29 different families.   Want to know what else we are doing for sustainability? • What do Leica and Faber-Castell have in common? A century of history defined by tradition, style, and innovation. And now there is even more: 2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the iconic Leica I, the first mass-produced 35mm camera. Faber-Castell is honouring this milestone with the limited edition Graf von Faber-Castell 'Perfect Pencil' and 'Perfect Pen', developed in collaboration with the Wetzlar-based camera manufacturer. Both products combine the best in design and craftsmanship, including the legendary Leica knurling and an engraving of the quote by the then Leica manufacturer Ernst Leitz II: "I hereby decide: We will take the risk." We are delighted to be a part of this remarkable anniversary and congratulate Leica Camera AG. • Today, on International Women's Day, we look back on our long business tradition of promoting women. Back in the mid-19th century, Lothar Freiherr von Faber (1817-1896) laid the foundations for equal opportunities in our company: 👉 He set up training schools for women—a revolution at the time! 👉 He campaigned for fair pay for women long before it became the social norm. 👉  Pregnant workers were released from their duties and guaranteed their jobs—an early example of maternity protection. 👉 He established kindergartens to help reconcile family and career so that mothers could work with peace of mind. 👉 Ottilie von Faber, Lothar's wife, independently managed large estates and properties and even became co-owner and sole heir of the company. Today, we continue this tradition and actively promote equal opportunities in our company. Our target of 50 percent women in management is a clear commitment to this vision and a tribute to our progressive history. Let us use this special day as a reminder to continue to work together for women's equity in the modern workplace. Happy International Women's Day! #FaberCastell #OneFaberCastell #womensday

The building has a large window in the center, and some plants are visible around the group. The caption at the bottom reads, "Arbeiterinnen der Bleistiftfabrik A. W. Faber in Stein," indicating they are female workers of the A. W. Faber pencil factory in Stein. The photo captures an era when industrial manufacturing roles were prominently filled by women.
  • 25 years ago, a historic date was recorded in the company's history: on 3 March 2000, Faber-Castell and IG Metall signed a social charter that applies to all Faber-Castell employees worldwide. This document was intended to officially attest to what the company had been practising for generations: a deeply rooted social responsibility for its global workforce, from Brazil to Australia. It was one of the first of its kind to be signed by a company in partnership with a trade union. The Charter is our global promise to guarantee the standards of fair working conditions recommended by the International Labour Organisation (ILO). It encompasses core values such as the ban on child labour, the guarantee of equal opportunities, and the assurance of safe working conditions. These principles have been a matter of course for generations of company leaders from the Faber(-Castell) family. Being part of our DNA, they are put into practice every day. • Sustainability and creativity go hand in hand. Our newly updated sustainability insights for the 2023/24 fiscal year are proof of this. Under the motto "Change Needs Creativity," we are setting clear priorities in environmental, social, and entrepreneurial areas: ♻️ Focus on environmental responsibility: In the past fiscal year, solar panels were installed at the Engelhartszell site to supply the Austrian plant with electricity from solar energy. More and more Faber-Castell production sites are switching to the use of recycled plastic, for example, in fibre tip pens, ballpoint pens, and highlighters. In the last financial year, more than 35 percent more recycled plastic was used than in the previous year. 🖍️ Fostering creativity and social responsibility: We support the creative development of children and young people in eleven countries through painting and drawing competitions. We also work with partners such as The Red Pencil Humanitarian Mission to support young people with traumatic experiences around the world. 🌐 We are proud of our commitment to the UN Global Compact: For over two decades, we have lived our tradition of responsibility at the international level. • The Nuremberg Trials at the International Military Tribunal (IMT) were not only a milestone in the prosecution of war crimes but also a unique media event. Journalists from all over the world were accommodated in the Faber-Castell family castle, which served as a press camp.   The issue is still highly topical today. For example, a film crew from the Franco-German channel ARTE recently visited us to include the historic site in a documentary about the trials. The film includes footage of the castle and interviews with people such as our archive manager, Emilia Gerstel, who tells the story of the reporters. Among other things, she gives an insight into how the international audience of the press camp, the so-called 'Faber Völkchen' (Faber flock), lived well together in the castle for several months, despite cultural differences and competition.   We are pleased to be part of this documentary and will provide more information when the air date is announced.   Read more about the castle as a “Press Camp of the Nuremberg war crimes trials“: https://lnkd.in/d9czizFa   #FaberCastell #history

  • New rooftop solar project in China amplifies our global renewable energy initiative.   Earlier this year, we achieved a significant milestone at our Guangzhou factory: We completed the installation of rooftop solar panels and commissioned them on 7 January.   This 319.8 kilowatt peak solar energy project covers 2,650 square metres of the factory rooftop, with an enhanced annual installed capacity of 275,000 kilowatt hours. On non-working days, the energy generated will be sold back to the national grid, contributing clean energy to the Guangzhou community.    With projects like this, we also aim to reduce our corporate carbon footprint. We also ensure the sustainability of our energy purchases. Wherever possible, we purchase energy according to the internationally recognised I-REC standard, which ensures transparency and traceability.   Find out more about sustainability at Faber-Castell: https://lnkd.in/d6Trycn #ChangeNeedsCreativity #FaberCastell #Sustainability
