1st Place: Fabrication of single-crystal suspended sub-300 nm Si Nanowires (Si NWs) for high-performance next-generation Sensors 🥇 We are thrilled to announce the winner of this year's Application Image Competition! Congratulations to Basit Ali, Ph.D. candidate at the Micro- and Nanofabrication Laboratory of Koç University in Istanbul, Turkey. His impressive work achieved together with the co-authors Mehdi Bostan Shirin, Dr. Umut Kerimzade, and Prof. Dr. Erdem Alaca, showcases the incredible potential of one-dimensional materials like silicon nanowires for advanced sensors. By leveraging our DWL 66⁺ lithography tool, he achieved precise and efficient fabrication of suspended Si nanowires with critical dimensions as fine as 250 nm—setting a new standard for high-performance sensors. The jury commended the project for its significant advancements in simplifying fabrication processes, reducing environmental impact, and enhancing the stability and uniformity of lithography. This breakthrough not only promises to revolutionize nanowire-based biochemical sensors but also paves the way for next-generation inertial sensors, with potential applications in areas such as medical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, and navigation systems. The innovation represents a crucial step forward in the miniaturization and performance enhancement of sensor technology, potentially impacting a wide range of industries. *** Winner of 2023-2024 Application Image Competition on Advanced Micro- & Nanofabrication (organized by Heidelberg Instruments) We are the winner of this year's prestigious Application Image Competition on Advanced Micro- & Nanofabrication, organized by Heidelberg Instruments! This is the SEM image of the fabricated device, which won the 1st prize, involving monolithically fabricated MEMS and Si nanowire features, with patterning performed via the Heidelberg DWL66+ lithography system. Compared to conventional e-beam lithography, the DWL 66+ significantly simplifies fabrication, reduces environmental impact, and cuts writing time drastically. We congratulate our PhD student Basit Ali for this achievement and are grateful to n2STAR and KUYTAM for providing advanced fabrication and characterization facilities. The award will be formally handed over by Heidelberg Instruments during the Nanopatterning Workshop scheduled on the sidelines of the 18th International Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Conference (NanoTR-18). #HeidelbergInstruments #Microfabrication
