  • Every drop counts 💧 Concrete is the second most used material in the world – the first is water. But just 0.5% of the world’s freshwater is accessible for human use. This scarcity highlights the need for responsible water management, especially as global freshwater demand continues to rise. We are committed to reducing our water consumption across all operations. One example: In Belgium (Heidelberg Materials Benelux) , we have successfully cut our use of clean water for concrete production by 21% over the last years, saving the equivalent of 13 Olympic swimming pools of water annually. Our measures to achieve this: 🟢 Recycling more used water in production processes 🟢 Collecting and using more rainwater for concrete mixing With freshwater use increasing rapidly, projections suggest a 40% gap worldwide between supply and demand by 2030. Belgium is among the countries with the smallest water resources. Now, more than ever, it is vital to conserve this precious resource. On today’s World Water Day, let’s reflect on how every action counts. Let’s all work together to use water more responsibly and ensure its availability for future generations!

  • Building better cycling infrastructure for tomorrow 🚴♂️ A 17 km bike path connecting Milan with the nearby city of Paullo is taking shape – with sustainability at its core. Passing just outside Heidelberg Materials Italia’s headquarters, this new route will offer safer, more comfortable, and environmentally conscious mobility, thanks to our innovative draining concrete i.idro DRAIN. With its high permeability, i.idro DRAIN naturally infiltrates rainwater into the ground, reduces puddles and ice, and even helps mitigate the urban heat island effect. Plus, its durability and elasticity ensure a smooth and enjoyable ride. This project is part of Milan’s ambitious Cambio Plan, a 750 km cycling network designed to transform urban mobility. Do you think this approach could inspire other cities?

Recycling concrete the smart way ♻️ At Heidelberg Materials, we are driving scalable and cost-efficient technologies that help us take concrete recycling to the next level! A great example is our ReConcrete approach that we are currently piloting in Poland on a larger scale. Last year, we opened our first-of-its-kind recycling facility near Katowice that introduces high-quality selective separation and sorting of demolition concrete. Why is this a game changer? 🟢 100% recycling of demolition concrete without quality loss, saving valuable virgin materials. 🟢 Innovative selective separation technology removes cement stone from sand and gravel, enabling better material reuse. 🟢 Industrial-scale operation, processing up to 100 tonnes of concrete per hour. And there is more! 🟢 Cement stone is fully recovered in the form of fine powder called recycled concrete paste (RCP). It naturally binds CO₂ which can be accelerated through enforced carbonation. 🟢 This unlocks new potential for the capture and storage of unavoidable CO₂ process emissions. 🟢 Our industrial demonstrator facility for enforced carbonation in Górażdże is set to launch soon. On today’s Global Recycling Day, this project highlights how innovation can drive sustainability in the construction industry. This facility allows us to close the material loop and significantly cut CO₂ emissions in the sector. How do you see the role of recycling in the future of construction?

evoZero at MIPIM: Shaping the trend for transformative construction This week, we joined built environment professionals, industry leaders and policymakers at MIPIM, the world’s largest real estate conference in Cannes, France, to discuss how we can accelerate decarbonisation in the real estate sector. The event provided a unique platform to engage with leaders in property development, construction and investment, and to showcase the future of sustainable building materials. Our mission at MIPIM: ✅ Showcase how innovative carbon capture technology and our pioneering evoZero® product will redefine sustainability in the real estate sector. ✅ Collaborate with industry leaders to drive the next generation of sustainable building solutions. ✅ Demonstrate how materials can help the real estate sector accelerate towards Net Zero, without sacrificing performance and durability. Bottom line: The real estate environment is evolving. Investors and developers are increasingly prioritizing carbon reduction, climate-conscious construction, and social change in shaping the built world. evoZero offers a distinct advantage for those committed to creating lasting change in the built environment!

Shaping the future of our cities Swedish property developer and manager AMF Fastigheter AB has chosen Heidelberg Materials' pioneering evoZero® for the urban development of the Marievik district in Stockholm – one of the Swedish capital's fastest growing areas in a vibrant waterfront location.    ‘We strive to develop the city in a way that reduces the climate impact and creates sustainable places for everyone who lives in and around our properties. With evoZero, we are making significant progress towards our environmental goals,’ says Johan Lindskog, Project Development Manager at AMF Fastigheter.   With evoZero, the world's first carbon captured cement enabling net-zero concrete, we are creating unique opportunities for sustainability-driven urban developers in climate-conscious construction. We will be able to supply our customers in Europe with evoZero from our upcoming CCS facility in Brevik, Norway, in the course of 2025. Heidelberg Materials Northern Europe

Fast. Efficient. Sustainable. 🚆 How do you deliver 150,000 tonnes of aggregate on time while keeping carbon emissions low? The answer: smart logistics and early collaboration. To support the development of a large-scale battery storage facility in south Wales, Heidelberg Materials UK supplied material from their Machen quarry – the region’s only rail-linked site. Transporting by rail instead of road cut the infrastructure programme from 77 weeks to just 10 and significantly reduced CO₂ emissions. The energy park is located on the site of a former coal-fired power station in Newport. Now, it supports the energy transition by generating power from renewable sources such as solar and wind.

  • This week, the European Commission published its Clean Industrial Deal. A necessary step to enable the green transition of energy-intensive industries and help ensure Europe remains competitive. At Heidelberg Materials, we welcome the proposals as they align the Green Deal objectives with industrial policy focusing on decarbonisation and cleantech. It is clear that the one will not survive without the other. It is important that the Commission is looking at all levers, including new support mechanisms for large-scale decarbonisation projects as well as creating green lead markets for our low-carbon and circular products. But we need to think further: We need to prioritise in the short-term and not shy away from difficult choices. To make the Clean Industrial Deal work, we need to: ✔️ Safeguard the Industrial Decarbonisation Bank and strengthen it with additional resources to scale up deployment fast ✔️ De-risk infrastructure roll-out including a long-term strategy for CO₂ transport and storage ✔️ Support the market uptake of decarbonised products by including environment criteria in public procurement with a particular focus on embodied carbon ✔️ Ensure a watertight Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and avoid any delays in its implementation ✔️ Do not compromise on our overall ambition, but reduce regulatory and administrative barriers Strong policy signals are indispensable for scaling up climate solutions while keeping the European industry competitive. #DeliverTheDeal #CleanIndustrialDeal #Decarbonisation #SustainableConstruction #CCUS #GreenTransition #HeidelbergMaterials

Reflecting on a strong year 📈   In short: We have continued our result growth trajectory and can look back on another very good performance in 2024 thanks to the hard work of our teams across the world.   We have further expanded our presence in the core market of North America and several other important growth markets. Due to our broad geographic footprint as well as our focus on cost and price management, we managed to more than compensate for declining demand in individual regions   When looking at the current year, we maintain an optimistic outlook. Even though the construction sector remains volatile in some regions, our core markets continue to stabilise. Therefore, we expect that earnings will once again grow in 2025.   Watch the video for more detailed insights into our 2024 achievements and the outlook for 2025!
