#CementTutorials Bone cements differ in their initial viscosity. Low viscosity #bonecement is initially more liquid, high viscosity bone cement is initially more pasty. After hardening, all viscosities have the same properties. Which one do you prefer? Want to learn more about bone cement handling? Are you familiar with the abbreviation #MRSA? Surely yes, as much was done about reducing MRSA #infection over the last decade. Lately I had a glimpse on the ECDC (Homepage | European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (europa.eu)) dashboard and was surprised about the fact that the MRSA rate has started to turn down in several EU countries. What’s your perception about MRSA? Is it still a threat? What’s your favorite #antibiotic combination in case of MRSA in #PJI (periprosthetic joint infection)? #AMR #PJI #antimicrobial #antibiotic #MRSA Source: Screenshot ECDC Dashbord from 30.07.2024

#PeriprostheticJointInfection (#PJI) remains one of the most relevant complications among #FracturedNeckOfFemur (#FNOF) patients. The use of dual antibiotic-loaded #bonecement (DALBC) for patients treated with #hemiarthroplasty after FNOF has been discussed and used for many years. Across all studies, using DALBC such as COPAL® G+C reduced the risk for infection and demonstrated similar PJI rates of around 1.1-1.2 % [1-4]. #CSR In the second project of the #CorporateSocialResponsibility initiative, #HeraeusMedical employees recently rebuilt and upgraded the garden of a daycare center in our headquarter location Wehrheim, Germany. Over the course of two days, the colleagues created a functional and experiential garden for the children under the expert guidance of gardeners and landscapers. The children now prefer to spend time in the garden even more and it is our pleasure that we as a company can actively support the region and give something back.

Interesting findings from a recent meta-analysis on #SurgicalSiteInfections in #FemoralNeckFracture patients undergoing #hemiarthroplasty. The analysis of 38 randomized control trials and observational studies demonstrated substantial variations in #InfectionRates within the literature and differences according to countries and years when the studies were performed. ✅ Superficial SSI: pooled rate estimate of 1.44% (95% CI 0.77; 2.28) ✅ Deep SSI: pooled rate estimate of 2.14% (95% CI 1.87; 2.42) Moreover, subgroup analyses revealed, that ✅ Longer follow-up periods correlated with higher deep SSI rates: 1.24% at 1 month, rising to 2.64% at 12 months ✅ Studies using defined criteria for infection diagnosis reported higher rates compared to those using undefined criteria (e.g. deep infection rates defined = 3,18%; undefined = 1,70%) Curious to get further insights? #FutureDay Recently we welcomed 12 kids of Heraeus Medical employees at our headquarter in Wehrheim and gave them insights into the job of a #ChemicalLaboratoryTechnician Besides receiving insights into the #training and the #jobprofile from our trainees, they participated in activities like melting point determination, paper chromatography, and pH measurement. A big thank you to our colleagues for organizing such an engaging and educational day. Who knows, perhaps one of those enthusiastic students will join our team in future 😊
