Honey bees play a crucial role in our ecosystems and agriculture. Protecting these vital pollinators is essential—especially when applying plant protection products. The EPPO 170 guideline sets the standard for semi-field studies assessing the effects of plant protection products on honey bees. It enables realistic risk assessment under practical agricultural conditions. At IBACON GmbH, we conduct these complex studies with the highest level of care and scientific precision. What defines a high-quality field / semi-field study?  Research conducted under real / controlled agricultural conditions  Long-term monitoring of honey bee colonies  Analysis of mortality rates, foraging behavior & colony development  Full compliance with strict regulatory requirements  With our extensive experience and state-of-the-art testing methods, we support plant protection product manufacturers in evaluating and optimizing the environmental safety of their products. Together, we contribute to the protection of pollinators and biodiversity. Interested in learning more about our  semi-field studies? Bees are among the most important pollinators in our ecosystems, contributing to biodiversity, food production, and environmental stability. While honey bees (Apis mellifera) are the most well-known species, the bee family is highly diverse, with over 20,000 species worldwide, each playing a unique role in nature. 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗕𝗲𝗲𝘀 (𝘼𝙥𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙖)  Social insects living in large colonies  Primary pollinators for many crops and wild plants  Produce honey and beeswax  Frequently studied in ecotoxicology due to their widespread presence in agricultural landscapes 𝗕𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗲𝘀 (𝘽𝙤𝙢𝙗𝙪𝙨 𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙨 & 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀) Live in smaller colonies compared to honey bees  Excellent pollinators, especially in colder climates and for crops like tomatoes  Their ability to buzz pollinate helps release pollen from certain plants that honey bees cannot efficiently pollinate 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗕𝗲𝗲𝘀 (𝙚.𝙜. 𝙊𝙨𝙢𝙞𝙖 𝙨𝙥., 𝙈𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙨𝙥., 𝘼𝙣𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙖 𝙨𝙥.) Do not form colonies; each female builds her own nest  Extremely efficient pollinators, often outperforming honey bees in specific crops  Some species, like 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝘀 (𝘖𝘴𝘮𝘪𝘢 𝘴𝘱.), are used in commercial fruit pollination 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗲𝗲𝘀 Bees play a critical role in maintaining healthy ecosystems by pollinating flowers, enabling plant reproduction, and supporting food chains. Without bees, many plants would struggle to reproduce, leading to reduced biodiversity and food shortages. At IBACON GmbH, we conduct ecotoxicological studies on honey bees, bumblebees, and solitary bees to assess the potential risks of plant protection products and chemicals, helping to protect these essential pollinators. At IBACON GmbH, we are dedicated to advancing scientific research in ecotoxicology, with a strong focus on bee studies. As pollinators play a vital role in maintaining biodiversity and supporting agricultural productivity, it is crucial to assess the potential impacts of chemicals and environmental changes on their health. With years of expertise in regulatory testing, ibacon conducts comprehensive ecotoxicological studies on honey bees (Apis mellifera), bumblebees (Bombus terrestris), and solitary bees (Osmia sp.). Our studies align with international guidelines such as OECD, EPPO, and GLP standards, ensuring high-quality and reliable data for risk assessment. Our bee studies include:  Field studies (e.g., EPPO 170) – Evaluating the real-world effects of agrochemicals on bee colonies  Semi-field tunnel tests (e.g. OECD 75) – Assessing pesticide impact on bee behavior and brood development  Lab-based toxicity studies (e.g., OECD 213/214, OECD 245, OECD 237) – Measuring acute and chronic toxicity through oral and contact exposure  By combining field, semi-field, and laboratory studies, ibacon provides critical insights that help regulatory bodies and industry partners make informed decisions to protect pollinators and ensure sustainable agriculture. Bees are essential pollinators, contributing to biodiversity and food security worldwide. However, their populations are under pressure due to habitat loss, climate change, and exposure to chemicals. Understanding these impacts is crucial for developing effective protection strategies.  This is where field studies play a vital role. Unlike laboratory tests, field studies allow researchers to observe bee behavior, colony health, and environmental interactions under real-world conditions. They provide valuable data on how plant protection products, habitat changes, and other stressors possibly affect bee populations over time.    At IBACON GmbH, we bring 30 years of experience in successfully conducting scientifically robust field studies to assess the risks and safety of plant protection products and other chemicals for pollinators. Our expertise ensures that our studies adhere to international guidelines (such as OECD and EPPO), providing high-quality data for reliable regulatory decision-making.    In the coming weeks, we will share insights from our bee studies, shedding light on methodologies, findings, and innovations in pollinator research. Stay tuned!  Visit our website for more information: https://lnkd.in/ej9kkKtM Don’t miss out—reserve your bee study slots now and ensure compliance with international regulations.
