😍 Thanks to a fitness challenge from IU International University of Applied Sciences, 10,500 trees are being planted. 🌳🌲 The IU community has once again demonstrated the power of collective action for sustainability. As a part of the fitness challenge, more than 120 IU teams collected kilometers with sporting and sustainable activities, tracked them in an app and covered 423,364 kilometers together Here's the exciting part: For every 40,075 km (equivalent to one circumnavigation of the Earth), the IU Group pledged to plant 1,000 trees. While no one traveled around the globe, the combined kilometers from all participants totaled an impressive 423,364 km, leading to the planting of 10,500 trees! This initiative beautifully showcases how small, everyday actions can lead to significant #environmentalimpact. Let's keep this momentum going! 🌍✨ We are thrilled to celebrate a milestone with our partner, Calcium! As a leader in the events space in the UAE, Calcium has recognized the importance of stepping up & showcasing environmental responsibility. In 2024, they have successfully planted over 100 mangroves in their very own mini mangrove forest in the UAE! 🌳 Mangroves are incredible carbon sinks, storing up to 5 times more CO2 than other tree species depending on the regional environment. By focusing on mangrove restoration, Calcium is maximizing its positive environmental impact. These trees not only combat climate change by growing to offset CO2 but also protect coastlines and provide crucial habitats for marine life. The UAE has become a leader in #mangroveconservation and #mangroverestoration, with efforts to increase mangrove coverage across the country. As temperatures reached 50°C in parts of India this year, our team has adapted a few things to protect our workforce and environmental mission. In northern India, we’re focusing on planting citrus trees, which offer environmental benefits and additional income for local communities. Our dedicated group of women are at the forefront of this project, nurturing seedlings in our nurseries and empowering themselves with independent income. Facing extreme heat, we've implemented crucial changes: • Adjusted working hours to cooler parts of the day • Maintained salaries despite reduced hours • Introduced mulching techniques to retain soil moisture These adaptations ensured the safety of our team while maximizing the survival rate of our newly planted trees. Each tree represents a step towards climate resilience, providing shade and reducing temperatures for generations. 🌳  At Impact Hero, we’re not just planting trees and collecting plastics — we’re cultivating a movement for change! Our 2024 Impact Report is here, and we’re excited to share our journey with you. 🌍 So far, on top of planting 2.7 million trees, we’ve also engaged in a variety of impactful initiatives that foster environmental and social change. We’ve restored 300 corals, protected 3 million square meters of forests, provided over 5,900 hours of education, and collected 12,000 kg of plastics from our environment, with our new focus beyond reforestation allowing us to address more Sustainable Development Goals. We’ve engaged with numerous organizations and inspired many companies to join our cause, creating a ripple effect of positive actions throughout the Global South. People are key.   This was not just my personal conclusion after the event yesterday which I was honoured to co-host with Dijana Galijasevic 🌍 from Impact Hero and Danit Gal from ViaEurope, two incredibly passionate and smart women. It is always magical to see what energy can be created when people come together and speak about a topic which is meaningful to them.   This was also the key take-away from our event on HR & Sustainability:   To create sustainable change, you need people. And people will join companies in which they feel empowered to contribute to sustainable change. Some other key messages:   🌱 Finding the right ambassadors within the organization can create momentum for sustainability and raise awareness 🌱 C-level involvement is key to drive sustainability 🌱 HR does not need to wait for a CSRD push. You can start with small initiatives, e.g. choose impactful gifts, and inspire others by that 🌱 Mental regeneration goes hand in hand with ecological and social regeneration: People will thrive if they feel connected to what they are doing and see its purpose.   Finding a new connection to work is a great task in a time of burn-out, stress and pressure and in a time of systemic crisis, climate change and biodiversity loss.
