Community Impact Spotlight: Transforming St. Andrews Kirk with Edintore Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund 📏🔨 💪 At Koehler Renewable Energy, we’re proud to see the tangible impacts of our support through the Edintore Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund. In 2021, St. Andrews Kirk embarked on an inspiring journey to enhance their facilities by applying for funding to create essential restroom and kitchen amenities. Before this project, the community members had to rely on the goodwill of their neighbors, as the kirk lacked basic toilet and washing facilities. This absence hindered the charity's fundraising efforts and limited the building's public use. Recognizing these challenges, the Edintore Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund stepped in with a grant of £5,574, covering initial costs for planning permissions and necessary consultations. However, as with many projects, the path wasn’t without its hurdles. The pandemic led to delays, including additional requirements from Aberdeenshire Council such as a tree survey and archaeological observations. Despite these challenges, our commitment to supporting meaningful community projects never wavered. In response, the fund provided an additional £13,281 to complete the project. This funding facilitated crucial work: from securing water and drainage systems to improving accessibility with a new disabled parking space. It also supported necessary renovations including decorating, flooring, and scaffolding for window repairs. St. Andrews Kirk now stands as a testament to the power of community support and collaboration. These enhancements not only provide vital facilities but also pave the way for increased community engagement and successful fundraising activities. We're incredibly grateful to be part of such impactful initiatives that drive positive change and strengthen our communities. Here's to many more projects that make a real difference! #communityimpact #sustainabledevelopment #renewableenergy #koehlerrenewableenergy #edintorewindfarm #supportingcommunities

Koehler Renewable Energy is delighted to support the announcement that the UK Government will create GB Energy 👍 GB Energy will be owned by the British people and backed with £8.3 billion of new money over this Parliament to own and invest in clean power projects in regions across the UK. While Koehler Renewable Energy UK welcomes the establishment of GB Energy and the creation of an Onshore Wind Industry Taskforce, we are concerned that smaller to medium-sized renewable firms will be excluded from strategic conversations. We believe that GB Energy represents a critical opportunity for every organisation of every size to play its part in meeting Scotland’s radical green energy goals. As one of Scotland's leading wind farm developers, Koehler Renewable Energy UK is committed to working with local and national stakeholders to ensure Scotland is on track to deliver its 2045 net zero ambition. Our team is ready to contribute their experience and expertise to these evolving discussions, and we are excited to work with the UK and Scottish Governments as they do. Some highlights of GB Energy include: 1. Project development - leading projects through development stages to speed up their delivery whilst capturing more value for the British public 2. Coal is a thing of the past 🚛🌱 Yesterday was an important day for the Koehler Group at the Oberkirch site: the very first delivery of biomass for our converted biomass power plant was successful! Beech wood chips from our partner the Zollikofer Group were delivered to test the state-of-the-art conveyor technology and explore the potential of our future "unmanned" reception. Thanks to the seamless unloading process facilitated by a walking floor truck, we successfully transferred the wood chips to the designated receiving pit. From there, the material is stored safely in the massive 4,700 cubic meter silos, with the initial 90 cubic meters already securely stored. This achievement is a major leap towards a more sustainable and efficient energy supply! 🔋💡 #biomass #biomasspowerplant #sustainability #innovation #renewableenergy

The Next Steps Towards Decarbonization 🌱 The Koehler Paper mill in Oberkirch, Germany will switch from hard coal to wood chips, green waste, and mill residue. Converting the combined heat and power plant from hard coal to biomass requires extensive conversion work. The commissioning and testing phase will start in mid-August, and the power plant should run on environmentally friendly biomass starting in October. This project will enable one of the Koehler Group’s largest greenhouse gas emitters to be decarbonized, drastically improving the company’s climate footprint in the process. More than 150,000 metric tons of direct fossil CO₂ emissions will be cut per year at the Oberkirch site as a result of the switch to biomass. #renewableenergy #decarbonization #climatefootprint #biomass

An era comes to an end: Last piece of coal fired at Oberkirch combined heat and power plant 💪 🌿 At its Oberkirch site, the Koehler Group is investing in the expansion and conversion of its power plant in order to use environmentally friendly biomass as fuel. The large-scale project hit another milestone in the beginning of June: After 38 years, the last piece of coal was burned at the Oberkirch combined heat and power plant. The power plant is now stopped, and extensive overhauling and conversion work for switching over to biomass fuel has been going full speed ahead since June 10th. The commissioning and testing phase will start in mid-August, and the power plant should run on environmentally friendly biomass starting in October. Koehler Group CEO Kai Furler explains: “For us, decarbonization of our coal-fired power plant in Oberkirch is another crucial step in our efforts to achieve our climate goals and produce more renewable energy than we need for our paper production operations starting in 2030.” #koehlerpaper #paperforthefuture #koehlerrenewableenergy

Koehler Renewable Energy: Paving the Way to a Sustainable Future at drupa 2024 🌍🔋 At drupa 2024, everything focuses on sustainability, the circular economy and energy efficiency. In line with these key themes, Koehler Renewable Energy is present at the world's leading trade fair for the printing industry to discuss the potential of sustainably produced energy with international professionals. Cornelius Schulthess, Corporate Director of Energy Supply Management at Koehler Renewable Energy, emphasizes, "Energy is one of the most critical levers for business success today. Companies have several options to improve their CO2 footprint, ranging from energy efficiency projects to self-generation of renewable energy and associated PPAs. By becoming independent of wholesale market prices, competitive advantages can be achieved." Given the exorbitantly increased energy costs and the growing demands of customers for CO2-neutral production, it is essential for energy-intensive companies to focus intensively on renewable energy for self-supply. This is also true for the print and packaging industry, which increasingly has to address these challenges. Koehler Renewable Energy supports companies in optimizing their energy procurement and marketing. We offer a comprehensive concept that ranges from project development and construction of renewable energy plants (heat, steam, electricity) to operation and integration into the procurement portfolio. Our energy system solutions help companies improve their CO2 balance and achieve competitive advantages through independence from wholesale prices. Rowancraig wind farm project supports charitable projects 👫👫👫 The proposed Rowancraig Wind Farm project in Scotland (subject to gaining planning consent), led by Koehler Renewable Energy, would not only bring positive economic impacts but also demonstrates a commitment to supporting the local community. Throughout the construction and operation of the wind farm, opportunities will be provided for local businesses. Moreover, a community benefit fund, potentially valued at £180,000 annually, will be established, subject to the wind farm's final capacity. Alan Mathewson, UK Director of Koehler Renewable Energy UK, emphasizes the importance of this development in aligning with the Scottish Government's net zero ambitions and is actively engaging with the community to gather ideas for the use of the community benefit fund. Koehler Renewable Energy has been supporting the local community during the development phase of the Rowancraig project through sponsorship of a schools sustainability and environmental initiative lead by Social Enterprise Scotland and the regeneration of a brownfield site, “Sanquhar Brickworks Project” lead by MERTZ, a local social enterprise, not for profit company. #sustainability #windpower #energytransition #renewableenery #socialresponsability
