She succeeds Stefan Lohrberg in this position. With more than 15 years of experience in global trade fairs, project management, and event organisation, Claudia Maurer brings a wealth of expertise to the table. She holds the prestigious title of Certified Exhibition Management Professional and has extensive knowledge in exhibitions, conferences, and corporate events. 🌍 Her career began at GE Healthcare, followed by various roles at the Frankfurt Exhibition Centre. For the past 15 years, she has lived in the USA, gaining valuable experience in project management both on the organiser side and at the agency and partner levels. Most recently, she worked as a Marketing Communications Event Consultant at Ecolab, where she managed over 75 events annually. 🚀 “We are delighted to welcome Claudia Maurer, an experienced expert, to our team. Growing Together – 100 years of Koelnmesse, 100 trees for Cologne! 🌳 As part of our anniversary celebration, we made a long-lasting contribution to the environment today: We are sponsoring 100 trees for the "A Forest for Cologne" project! Together with Stadt Köln and the German Forest Protection Association, we are creating a sustainable space for future generations and helping to preserve the city’s green lung. 💚 On behalf of Koelnmesse, our Sustainability Manager Karen Brune symbolically planted the first trees today and then went to visit a flourishing grove that Koelnmesse helped plant ten years ago for its 90. anniversary. 🌿 Did you know? Koelnmesse’s Confex hosts Rheinland Business Night – A hub for business, politics and innovation 📍 🏛️ Koelnmesse’s Confex became a hotspot for regional decision-makers on Tuesday evening, as around 350 invited guests from the fields of business, politics, culture, media, and academia gathered for the third "Rhineland Business Night". The event at our newly opened Conference and Exhibition Centre Confex was hosted by the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger Medien alongside its partners, including Koelnmesse. 🙌 The guest of honour and keynote speaker for the evening was the German Federal Minister of Finance and FDP party leader Christian Lindner. He was welcomed by Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger publishers Isabella Neven DuMont and Christian DuMont Schuette, along with DuMont Group CEO Christoph Bauer, KSTA Media CEO Thomas Schultz-Homberg, and Koelnmesse CEO Gerald Böse. 🚀 In his opening speech, Christian Lindner lamented the decline of the German economy, which has dropped from 6th to 24th place in global competitiveness over the past decade. He emphasized that a shift in innovation and corporate culture is essential to reclaiming a leading international position. 🌍💪 Another highlight of the evening was the presentation of awards to outstanding companies in five categories: Technology, Sustainability, Digitalisation, Start-ups, and Inclusion. 🏆 An inspiring evening at Confex, strengthening exchange and collaboration. Autumn vibes on our grounds – nature’s buzz continues. 🍂 Our strategically placed deadwood piles are true oases for nature, even in an urban setting. Mosses and lichens settle in, while beetles and ants make themselves at home. Lizards, toads, and newts find safe shelter, and birds stop by, always in search of a tasty treat. Here on the trade fair grounds, deadwood creates essential refuges for animals that can hardly find space in overly tidy parks and gardens. 🐸🌿 And as it gets colder? The deadwood piles become winter shelters for hedgehogs, butterflies, and ladybugs. "Cologne is always worth the flight!" – Aerial photographer Hans BLOSSEY talks about his stunning shots of the Koelnmesse trade fair grounds 📸✈️ Hans Blossey is one of Germany's most renowned aerial photographers. Over the course of 40 years, he has documented landscapes and cities in around 350,000 photos, accumulating over 5,000 flight hours – including his work capturing our trade fair grounds for the new Koelnmesse image film. We are grateful to Blossey for beautifully photographing and showcasing our trade fair grounds in this special anniversary year. Our central location and world-class infrastructure draw international visitors from all over the globe. 🌍 We asked Hans Blossey what it was like to capture our workplace from dizzying heights: What makes Cologne a special subject for you? 💯 Blossey: "Cologne is always worth the flight! The city, with its crane houses, cathedral, old town, and of course the trade fair grounds, is so rich in detail. That makes it a very exciting project." How did you capture the shots over the trade fair grounds? 🚀 "When flying, it’s a routine process. Before each flight, I check both the oil level and the technical condition of the aircraft with a quick walk-around. At about 300 meters up, it's all about finding the right position for the perfect shot. Flying over the trade fair grounds at speeds of 100 to 120 km/h means I have to be quick – there’s no time to hesitate." How does the unique location of Koelnmesse help you capture it optimally from the air? 🌥️ "Around the exhibition grounds, we are in the security zone of Köln Bonn Airport. Today we celebrate the International Day of Climate Action! We’re proud to share the key measures we’ve taken to reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a sustainable future! 🌱   1️⃣ Green Electricity: We’ve been running on 100 percent green electricity for years and have just completed the largest innercity photovoltaic system in Cologne atop Hall 11. By the end of this year, we’ll have a solar power capacity of three million kilowatt hours annually — enough to power over 1,000 homes. This will save 1,850 tons of CO2 every year, and we’ve got more projects lined up!   2️⃣ Fossil-Free Heating: Together with E.ON and RheinEnergie AG, we’re shifting our entire heating system to fossil-free energy by 2028. Our new heat pumps draw energy from groundwater and any excess heat will be fed back into the local grid. This move will cut our CO2 emissions by 5,800 tons per year.   3️⃣ Energy Efficiency: We’ve updated our ventilation and lighting systems across our halls. Our new systems consume up to 50 percent less power and the switch to LED lights alone is saving 65,000 kilowatt hours annually — enough for 30 households.   4️⃣ Smart Traffic Management: With 50,000 trucks visiting our site annually, our digital logistics system, eSlot, optimizes traffic flow, cutting CO2 emissions, pollution, and noise. Our NUNAV app also helps visitors find the quickest, most efficient routes, including one of our soon-to-be 170 electric vehicle charging stations.   5️⃣ Waste Reduction: We’re optimising our waste management, aiming for 80 percent reusable materials in system stand construction by 2030. Additionally, all flooring at our events will be recycled.
