    Pioneering a more sustainable future with an energy self-sufficient store in Italy   Our latest endeavor with Lidl Italia is an energy self-sufficient store in Villafranca, Italy. 🇮🇹🌱   Opened at the end of May 2024, this project highlights our goal of building energy self-sufficient stores that are scalable on an international level while also setting a new standard for sustainable construction. The store in Villafranca serves as a blueprint for an energy self-sufficient overall concept with a modular system. This means that individual elements can be adopted for future stores. 🌍✨   The store uses a variety of methods to achieve a balanced energy self-sufficiency. These include: 🤏 minimizing energy demand and CO₂ emissions using specific materials and equipment 🔋 maximizing energy production through photovoltaics that cover the store’s optimized energy demand and achieving an annual energy balance.   To increase sustainability, CO₂ emissions have been reduced by using natural materials such as wood and cellulose. In addition, refrigeration units with doors are used and a rainwater management system has been implemented.     "Living and working in a different language has increased my cultural awareness" Casi, Purchasing Manager at Lidl International, has been part of #teamlidl for 5 years. She began her journey as a trainee in the purchasing department at Lidl GB, where she specialized in fish products. 🐟 Now, as part of the Lidl International Job Rotation Program, Casi has moved to Germany and is taking on a new challenge—working on baked goods and frozen desserts for the first time in her career! 🥨🍨 Having always lived in Great Britain, working in a non-English-speaking environment was initially daunting, but it quickly boosted Casi’s confidence. "At first, it was challenging, but it’s been a great way to grow both personally and professionally!" 💪 After five years in London, moving to a smaller German city was quite a change, but one she’s embraced wholeheartedly. "The area is so green, with vineyards, castles, and charming old towns to explore! Plus, it’s easier to travel to other European countries, which adds to the adventure." 🇬🇧🇩🇪 For anyone considering international experience, Casi’s advice is simple: "Be a ‘yes’ person, put yourself out there, and meet new people.     Celebrating 20 years of Lidl Slovakia! Lidl Slovenská republika is celebrating two decades of success, growth, and making a difference in the retail market. 🛒🌍 At the core of our success are the people who’ve been with us every step of the way. Zuzana, Senior Consultant in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Lidl Slovakia, has been part of the Lidl family for over 22 years. 👩💼💼 Starting her career back in 2002 in the Expansion department, she was responsible for purchasing land for the construction of new stores. Zuzana has seen Lidl Slovakia grow into what it is today.    🌿♻️ After holding several leadership positions, she found her true passion in CSR, where she has spent the last eight years developing the sustainability strategy. "What I love most about my job is that when I look forward, I see the vision, and when I look back, I see the results. Lidl is not only a grocery retailer, but I am personally very proud of all the activities it develops in Slovakia. We are helping children, hospitals and educating our team members.” 🎉 Zuzana says that what started with just two expansion offices and a small, dedicated team has now blossomed 20 years later into a network of stores across the country, serving millions.     A team effort: Dominik and Oliver at UEFA EURO 2024™    Dominik, Head of Sales at Lidl Česká republika, has been a part of #teamlidl since 2017. Starting as a Regional Sales Manager, he now oversees 35 stores and works closely with his team to foster a strong sense of community. ❤️💙💛 As lucky winners of the Lidl Kids Team Program, Dominik and Oliver had the opportunity to attend the UEFA EURO 2024 Czech Republic vs. Portugal match in Leipzig.  Oliver got the chance to take part in the #LidlKidsTeam and he accompanied the footballers onto the pitch. 🤩   "I’m a huge fan of Czech football, and both Oliver and I love Spanish teams, so winning the tickets was an amazing surprise!" Dominik fondly recalls the trip as a well-organized and unforgettable experience. "Lidl planned everything perfectly—we spent time with other Lidl Kids Team participants, explored the city, enjoyed great meals, and soaked in the festive atmosphere.     Lidl goes festivals: Bogdan at Electric Castle in Romania     At Lidl, we’re committed to making healthy food options accessible—even at summer festivals! Bogdan, Project Manager Marketing at Lidl România, took charge of the Lidl festival store at Electric Castle, one of Romania’s biggest music festivals with over 274,000 visitors across 5 days. 🤩 "This was one of the most exciting and rewarding projects I’ve worked on," Bogdan shares. "My goal was to highlight the key messages of Lidl while ensuring festival-goers had an amazing experience with us." The Lidl store at Electric Castle was a hit, offering participants everything from the best possible Lidl prices to a variety of food options spread out throughout the entire festival including a fresh bar, breakfast station in the camping area, and a grill station right next to our store where our team helped guests cook their meals. "We had a food court, energy-packed fresh juices to keep everyone going, and even a Ferris wheel." 🎡✨   From the entrance to the camping grounds, the presence of Lidl was everywhere, making Electric Castle a truly immersive experience for Lidl. To meet the goals of the agreement, we need strong responses and real action to tackle climate change. That's why our mission at Lidl is: Net-Zero by 2050 🌍   We are reducing our greenhouse gas emissions to Net-Zero by 2050 – across all Lidl countries and along our entire value chain. Net-Zero means that we are reducing our greenhouse gas emissions as close to zero as possible by 2050. This way, we are making a significant contribution to protecting our planet.   At Lidl, we are firmly convinced that we have a responsibility towards the environment. Kenneth McGrath, Chief Executive Officer at Lidl International, makes it clear what a fundamental change the commitment involves: “This will be a major task that will challenge us all – all 31 Lidl countries with stores, the entire #teamlidl and especially our partners in the supply chain. With ambitious goals and decisive action, we at Lidl are taking responsibility for climate protection and doing our part to be part of the solution.”   At the Hamburg Sustainability Conference (HSC) on October 7th, Dr. Jennifer Maria Cords, Senior Vice President Corporate Affairs at Lidl International, will speak on the panel discussion "Paving the way to COP30 – the role and expectations of businesses and business networks". "We regularly analyze the global challenges of our time and bring them together with our corporate strategy. It is clear to us that sustainability is an integral part of Lidl's future. Our commitment to Net-Zero by 2050 and the fact that we are once again significantly intensifying our climate commitment is the next milestone that we would like to draw attention to, for example, at the HSC. But the HSC is also about showing that economy and politics must pull together to achieve the international climate targets." In 2020, the companies of Schwarz Gruppe joined the Science Based Targets initiative to help achieve the 1.5 degree target of the Paris Climate Agreement.     International experience helps you gain a better understanding of how Lidl works! Juliana, Branding and Packaging Manager at Lidl Italia, took a bold step this year by joining the International Job Rotation program in Italy. After 3.5 years at Lidl International, she was excited to expand her professional and personal horizons in another Lidl Country. Now based in Verona, Juliana is working closely with her new team, gaining insights into how Lidl Italy operates, and immersing herself in the local culture. From the work environment to the cuisine, the experience has been both exciting and eye-opening. “Now I am assessing the differences at the national level and exploring ways to enhance future processes. I am also familiarizing myself with the Italian market and its competition.” Beyond work, Juliana is making the most of her time in Italy exploring the whole country and enjoying the Italian way of life. 🍷🍝 What excites you most about working abroad?
