  • 🌿 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 Last weekend, our consultants Maxine Bichler, Sarah Blank, and Sofía Vélez Klumpp attended the Fashion Week Metamorphosis Talks, organised by Fashion Council Germany in partnership with Vogue Business and eBay. The event brought together industry leaders to discuss how brands can integrate sustainability into their core business models—not just as a compliance exercise, but as a long-term commitment to responsible business practices. Key takeaways from the discussions: 🔹 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘀 – The time for quick fixes is over. Sustainability must be embedded into corporate strategy, with ambitious long-term goals translated into concrete short-term actions. 🔹 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 – Engaging with suppliers on the ground isn’t just about meeting requirements. It’s about understanding realities, building trust, and ensuring that all stakeholders move forward together. 🔹 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 – Data collection is often seen as an administrative burden, but when used effectively, it becomes a powerful tool for improving business practices and driving sustainability forward. The fashion industry’s challenges offer valuable lessons for companies across all sectors looking to strengthen their 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀. For transformation to succeed, sustainability must be more than a goal—𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲. Only then can companies move beyond compliance to create meaningful, lasting impact. 🚀 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝘂𝗽 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆? • 🗞️ Have you read our first monthly briefing of 2025, featuring the editorial from our Managing Director, Markus Löning?   In his editorial, Markus highlights that protecting human rights in supply chains remains both a critical challenge and a strategic opportunity for businesses in 2025, particularly for risk mitigation and resilience. While the EU Commission plans to streamline sustainability regulations — including the #CSDDD, #CSRD, and #EUTaxonomy — uncertainty lingers over the details and potential delays. At the same time, the new US administration is expected to push back against European sustainability laws while maintaining a strong stance on #forcedlabour, with potential new transparency and labour law measures under "Project 2025".    Despite regulatory shifts, Markus advises that companies must strengthen human rights due diligence (#HRDD), leveraging AI and data analytics alongside in-depth local insights and supplier relationships. • The #WorldReport2025 by Human Rights Watch was published recently, covering human rights developments throughout 2024. Organised by country, it provides an insightful, in-depth analysis of rights protections and violations worldwide. Its insights serve not only human rights generalists but also business and human rights specialists seeking key information for their work. Despite its challenges, 2024 has been a "Year of Reckoning", as Human Rights Watch Executive Director Tirana Hassan put it: “For when rights are protected, humanity flourishes. When they are denied, the cost is measured not in abstract principles but in human lives.” Here are some takeaways from our consultant and co-head of Löning Academy, Leonel Lisboa: ✅ 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗹𝗮𝘄 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗹𝗮𝘄 This year saw major strides in regulatory frameworks, with #CSDDD and #EUFLR gaining ground. The German #LkSG picked up momentum, and case law under France’s 𝗗𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗩𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 provided further legal clarity. ⚖️ 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 & 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 Despite progress, 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘄𝘀 intensified, particularly in Europe and the US. Meanwhile, 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲, and 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲. 🔮 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱? The road ahead won’t be easy, 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹: 📌 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 – Strengthen and enforce mandatory due diligence legislation, including the publication of clear guidance for implementation. 📌 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 – Implement effective due diligence procedures in their own operations, subsidiaries and chain of activities. 📌 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘀 – Communicate complex issues clearly and accessibly engaging with wider audiences. The challenges are real, but so is the opportunity to drive meaningful change. Let’s stay focused and keep pushing forward. 💬 Read our insights on HRW's report here: https://lnkd.in/dfsgSiMX #HumanRights #BusinessAndHumanRights #BHR #Sustainability #ResponsibleBusiness #CorporateAccountability #HREDD
