Colleagues of Lohmann & Rauscher and Speciality Fibres and Materials Ltd united for charity & a challenging sports event! On April 5th, 2025 a team of five colleagues will be hitting the Rosalia Trail in Austria, covering a whopping 226 km in a single day! 🌍🏃♂️☀️ 👉 Three teammates will each tackle 22 km, while two brave souls will push their limits with an 80 km non-stop trek. They are calling themselves "Legs Miserables"—and that name will probably feel VERY accurate by the end! 😂 But what’s keeping them motivated is more than just the sportive challenge—it’s the incredible cause the are supporting. 💙 They are doing this to raise funds for the Austrian based St. Anna Children's Cancer Research, a pioneering institute dedicated to improving treatments and outcomes for children battling cancer. Every single euro raised will go directly to this life-changing work. Will their feet be sore? Oh, absolutely. Will they push through? 👉 Watch out: Today we continue our "L&R Prevent & Protect Series" and present: Our Pathogen of the Month: Candida albicans Candida albicans 🦠 is a yeast fungus and the most common cause of fungal infections in humans. Around 75% of people carry it as part of their normal microbiota, usually without symptoms. However, if the immune system is weakened (e.g., due to illness 🤒, surgery 🏥, or chemotherapy 💊), it can spread and become invasive. As a nosocomial pathogen, Candida albicans ranks among the top 10 microorganisms causing hospital infections 🏨, according to German data from the European point prevalence study. Transmission typically occurs via contaminated hands 🖐️ or surfaces. High-risk patients, particularly those with immunosuppression 😷 or undergoing antibiotic therapy 💉, are especially vulnerable. In severe cases, the fungus can enter the bloodstream, leading to life-threatening infections such as sepsis. Maintaining consistent basic hygiene 🧼 and implementing effective barrier measures is essential to prevent transmission and infection!
