    At MAHLE we know technological diversity is key to fast decarbonization   MAHLE Pioniergeist and our deep systems expertise deliver components for battery electric drives, fuel cells as well as hydrogen engines, and the use of renewable fuels—actively shaping all paths to tomorrow’s climate-friendly transportation.   At the moment hydrogen is the renewable fuel with the greatest potential to decarbonize the transportation sector. Several hydrogen engines are currently being tested at MAHLE. This year, engine manufacturer DEUTZ will enter series production utilizing MAHLE components. This flagship project will first focus upon stationary engines before expanding to mobile, off-highway applications. “We are very confident that serially-produced hydrogen engines will enter widespread use as early as this decade,” said Arnd Franz at a technology event in Stuttgart.   Synthetic fuels as energy sources should are also a lever to decarbonization. Here biofuels also play a key role until synthetic fuels are more widely available. These fuels could make an additional contribution to the reduction of carbon emissions in the transportation sector. Some regions, such as South America or India, are already focusing fully on biofuels. MAHLE is broadly positioned with components and high systems expertise for battery electric drives, fuel cells as well as hydrogen engines, and the use of renewable fuels—actively shaping all paths to tomorrow’s climate-friendly transportation. MAHLE technology is comprehensively represented in all electrified trucks that are currently being launched. Our engineers are involved in all current major hydrogen engine projects and development projects for fuel cell vehicles. At the Hashtag#IAATransportation in September, MAHLE will present its systemic approach to a fuel cell truck: with fuel cell peripherals, thermal management, and a fully functional e-axle with two integrated SCT electric motors. “Our products are developed, tested and ready for volume production,” Franz concluded.     The MAHLE E-Axle is a technology demonstrator showcasing our systems expertise in electrification of heavy-duty vehicles. The fully functional electric axle integrates two MAHLE SCT e-motors with a total peak power of 520 kW and 480 kW continuous power for challenging electrically driven commercial vehicle applications. With the SCT (Superior Continuous Torque) electric motor, MAHLE has the longest-lasting electric motor in its portfolio—a true electric endurance champion. The new e-motor is unrivaled in its small size, light-weight and efficiency. The groundbreaking oil cooling ensures that the traction motor can operate with high output for an unlimited period of time. The oil management of the high-performance motors is optimally integrated into the axle, with maximum efficiency and minimum pressure loss. Both the SCT electric motors and the liquid management module have been developed ready for series production.     Making a difference through fostering diversity! Sandra has already completed her dual studies in mechanical engineering in cooperation with MAHLE. After holding various positions in quality management, logistics and operations as well as a short-term assignment at our US location in Dayton, she is currently working as a project manager driving transformation forward at our thermal management locations in Stuttgart. In her career at MAHLE, new challenges have arisen every few years. She was also repeatedly offered opportunities in functions that were not typically held by women, in which she was able to learn a lot both personally and professionally. For Sandra, diversity means having different perspectives from different personalities in a team. She also firmly believes that there is no reason to be the same. "I make sure that no one is left behind on our current transformation journey at MAHLE and that everyone stays motivated by encouraging my colleagues and having open conversations," says Sandra.     Co-creation sessions: fostering collaboration and innovation In 2023, the purchasing department at our Shanghai site launched the Co-Creation Sessions. Their aim is to inspire and support each other and work together more effectively. The employees have unique expertise and experience but are often spread across different locations. The workshop aims to overcome challenges in team communication and promote the development of skills within the different teams. "Together, we can promote creative thinking, increase innovation potential, and improve our ability to innovate. By sharing knowledge, we can develop more comprehensive solutions, strengthen team cohesion, and increase the efficiency of collaboration," said the team behind the events. The co-creation sessions provide a common platform for employees with similar learning needs and bring together team members working on similar topics. The project has been a great success: more than 40 employees regularly use the opportunity to share knowledge, discuss, and work together on new solutions.
