You may be wondering whether our industrial valves contribute to greater sustainability. Our answer: 𝗬𝗲𝘀! Among the reasons: the weight minimization of our valves through the deep-drawing production process. The materials for self-acting industrial valves are selected according to the application area and ambient conditions. Solid material is suitable for high-pressure applications and, thanks to its corrosion resistance, for aggressive media. Cast valves are used in high-temperature areas, welded constructions are used for large nominal widths and high volume flows. If valves are manufactured from deep-drawn steel sheets, this allows significantly lower material usage compared to cast or solid material. Thin-walled sheets are manufactured in several steps to form deep-drawn pots, which then serve as the body for the valve. The deep-drawing production process is significantly more resource-efficient due to: ✔ less material usage, e.g. due to sheet thicknesses of 0.5 to 10.0 mm ✔ less material wastage compared to valve bodies made of solid material 👉 In addition, this type of production generates very little CO2 In a nutshell: The reduction in weight of our valves leads to a reduction in material consumption and the associated environmental impact. These range from more energy-efficient machines to paperless departments, etc. However, we are convinced that sustainability does not end with production - it accompanies us right through to the delivery of our products. Mankenberg goes paperless: Paperless office and paperless production 🏭 📄 Since March 2020, we at Mankenberg have taken the step towards paperless administration and have digitized our work processes to this end. The resource savings associated with this changeover have particularly amazed us: 📉 𝟭𝟱𝟬.𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗗𝗜𝗡 𝗔𝟰 𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 are saved every year, which corresponds to about 𝟲𝟬 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿. These savings significantly reduce our paper consumption and safeguard valuable resources. 🌍 By saving resources in this way, we emit 𝟳𝟱𝟬 𝗸𝗴 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗖𝗢𝟮 every year and thus minimize our ecological footprint. 📄 In 2023, we processed 8,587 offers and saved at least 𝟰𝟮,𝟵𝟯𝟱 𝗽𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 of paper by switching to paperless administration.  We want to increase our paper savings even further: Correspondingly, we are working intensively on converting our production to paperless processes as well. The conversion process is already in full swing: all warehouse orders are now paperless, as are the main activities in Mankenberg‘s distribution center. Preparatory measures in our warehouse, such as converting all stock to QR codes and recording with hand scanners, are in progress. Sustainability in the industry? Valve repair is the game-changer 🌳🏭🔧🌳 The repair of valves is an often neglected but decisive step on the way to greater sustainability in the industry. To coincide with the German Sustainability Action Days 2024, we want to provide information on the contribution that a repair can make compared to a new purchase: ♻️ Extension of the operational lifespan: Regular maintenance and repair of valves extends their operational lifespan. This means fewer new purchases and less waste. 🌳 💡 Raw material and energy savings: Repairing valves reduces the consumption of raw materials and energy that would otherwise be needed to manufacture them. This reduces the ecological footprint! ♻️ Recycling management: Repairing valves contributes to a better circular economy: Resources are reused and waste is minimized. The picture shows exactly how a valve repair can look like: After 10 years of use in the drinking water sector, the back pressure regulator UV 4.7, that the customer used as drain valve, was heavily soiled and corroded. However, the operator of the waterworks decided against a new valve and instead opted to repair it.   And our team has done a great job: The body parts, the bonnet and the diaphragm body were expertly refurbished and restored to their original condition. The replaced components such as elastomers, piston and stem could be recycled again thanks to our single-variety production. 👉 Our findings: A repair is not only worthwhile for economic reasons, it also saves resources. Sustainability in the manufacturing process: How the deep drawing process protects the environment 🌏 The term “deep drawing” refers to a sustainable production technique that offers far-reaching ecological benefits. At Mankenberg, we use this technology not only to manufacture high-quality products, but also to make our contribution to environmental protection. And this is how it works: ✔️ Material quality: Compared to cast materials, the deep-drawn sheet metal coil is characterized by a higher quality. This reduces the need for raw materials and minimizes the ecological footprint. ✔️ Saving resources: Deep drawing facilitates the production of complex components from a single piece of sheet metal, which significantly reduces material waste. ✔️ Energy efficiency: Deep drawing requires less energy compared to other manufacturing processes, which leads to a reduction in energy consumption and CO2 emissions. ✔️ Weldability: The weldability of stainless steel sheet, including deep-drawn ones, enables components to be reused and adapted, which helps to extend their operational lifespan. 👉 Deep drawing therefore means less material used, less material wasted and lower CO2 emissions during production.
