#NDTArticle Using Eddy Current Testing for Wire Inspection! In his latest article, Troy Libby from Magnetic Analysis Corporation breaks down how “Eddy Current Technology” is used to catch flaws like cracks, seams, and internal defects in both ferrous and non-ferrous wires. This method uses two main tools: “Encircling Coils”, which the wire runs through, and “Rotary Probes” for a closer surface scan. The technology works for a range of wire sizes, from ultra-fine (.002") to larger gauges (.725"). While encircling coils can inspect any size, rotary probes are best for wires above .200". Why it matters: Eddy Current Testing gives manufacturers a non-contact way to keep wire quality high and detect issues early. #NDTArticle How does dimensional analysis enhance ultrasonic testing? In his latest work, Alex Karpelson applies similarity theory to ultrasonic testing of concrete blocks, offering a fresh approach to representing physical systems with fewer variables. By introducing two key dimensionless criteria—total wave attenuation and void size-to-wavelength ratios—this study shows how lab results on small concrete samples can be applied to larger field conditions. The use of low-frequency UT waves (60-100kHz) is essential for detecting larger voids (20-40mm) in thick concrete.
