That’s why we’re excited to share that Jette Brandauer, Sustainability Manager at NKG, will represent us at SoS.25 – Sustainability osapiens Summit on May 14-15 in Mannheim, Germany. This important event, held by osapiens, brings together leaders and experts to discuss practical strategies for creating sustainable supply chains, and we’re proud to be part of this crucial conversation. “I am very much looking forward to sharing EUDR implementation experiences and learning from other companies – how they use osapiens to combine compliance with lasting impact. How can digital solutions and data be used efficiently in the context of sustainability? Where can we improve data sharing – for example, by bringing together many stakeholders from the same supply chain on a single platform? There are definitely many things to talk about. And collaboration with other supply chain stakeholders is essential to drive sustainable solutions. Especially when it comes to complex issues such as deforestation-free supply chains. A shared digital infrastructure can make a real difference.”  Jette Brandauer, Sustainability Manager, Group Sustainability Don't miss out on this exciting event! We can't wait to hear all about Jette's insights afterwards. https://lnkd.in/dRcqgbHF

  • 𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁 #𝟮 What do you know about “Robusta Coffee”? NKGQualityService is unveiling the key facts of the second most widely consumed coffee in the world. Our Group values diverse perspectives from around the globe. NKG Quality Service leads us through important aspects of Robusta coffee and education programs related to the quality of green coffee for the group companies. And they also offer public education courses certified by the SCA and CQI! 𝗪𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 Gloria Pedroza, 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗡𝗞𝗚 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲. Robusta, when meticulously cared for from farm to cup, results in remarkable cup quality. Educating all the parties involved about its special processes is essential for recognizing and appreciating its distinct qualities, thus elevating its status in the coffee world. 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘰𝘯 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘙𝘰𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘢 𝘊𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘶𝘯𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘥? Robusta is said to lack cleanliness and sweetness, that the flavors are usually (or exclusively) very woody, earthy or bitter, and that it's suitable for espresso blends only. These outdated perceptions are a step back for progress in the industry. Robusta producers, like in Kaweri – our farm in Uganda – are implementing techniques such as yeast fermentation, resulting in remarkably clean, fruity, and very sweet Robustas. 🍇 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘙𝘰𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘢, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘺𝘦𝘵? Many may assume Robusta tastes unclean compared to Arabica, but this isn't always the case. Although, it is crucial to understand that for cupping and grading, different references are needed to differentiate desirable and undesirable flavors in Robusta. Specific farming techniques can lead to cup profiles that are as complex as the ones found in Arabica. Notably, Fabiana Carvalho's (a Brazilian Coffee Scientist) amazing research on the Official Robusta Flavor Wheel highlights the importance of understanding Robusta flavors to assess its quality accurately. • 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 Today, on March 8th, we celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) and the vital role of women in coffee. While IWD is a moment to reflect on progress, it’s also a reminder that equity requires continuous effort. Together, we strive to embody the values we celebrate today on every other day of the year as well. Women have always been at the heart of coffee, yet their contributions are often overlooked, and opportunities remain unequal. Advancing gender equity isn’t just a moral imperative – it’s essential for the success of our industry. David M. Neumann, NKG’s Group CEO, is convinced: “Coffee is a global connector, loved across all ages, genders, and cultures. We want to work towards an industry as inclusive as the beverage we all cherish.” Justin Schulze-Smidt, NKG’s Group CFO, explains, “Although equal pay is not the solution to all the inequality, it is definitely a beginning and the base of it. By consistently reviewing our processes, we can ensure fairness and foster a culture of equity that inspires trust and empowers all employees to feel equally valued.” “Many of the biases that shape our interactions and decisions operate unconsciously, influenced by the cultures and societies we live in,” adds Maren Uzarek, NKG’s Group CPO. “Challenging these belief systems helps us better understand ourselves and the ways we work together, creating a more conscious and equitable company culture.” That’s why we partnered with Leqture: to spark reflection and thus action on these crucial topics! Two days ago, on March 6th, we invited our employees to participate in inspiring live speaker sessions on gender equity, diversity, and inclusion. For those unable to join live, recordings will be available for the next three months. We have received the first results, and we are very happy to share that they show that employees from 29 countries have participated in the sessions, showing our commitment all around the globe! The session titled 𝘉𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘨 by Tharaka Gunarathne resonated most with our employees, as it was rewarded with the best feedback and evaluation results – closely followed by 𝘈𝘋𝘏𝘋 𝘪𝘯 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘴 by Martha Barnard-Rae. Regarding the feedback, our employees appreciated the sessions as thought-provoking. They feel encouraged to reflect deeply on unseen cultural and societal biases and inspired to take actionable steps toward fostering greater equity. These sessions and the first feedback gave us a valuable insight into what we are able to achieve working on a more inclusive (work) environment together. So, let’s do what we can to close the gaps and shape a future where everyone has the opportunity to succeed! What do you think – which steps can we all take today to reflect on and challenge our own biases? #NeumannKaffeeGruppe #NKG #greencoffee #equityincoffee #iwd2025 #accelerateaction

That’s why we highly value opportunities for exchange – gaining insights into every crucial step of the coffee supply chain, including the roaster’s perspective, allows us to support our group companies and customers with the best expertise possible. In the beginning of February, our Group Sustainability team had the amazing opportunity to visit the roastery of Tchibo in Hamburg and explore the intricate processes behind roasting and packaging coffee. It was a valuable experience, as they gained significant insights into the downstream supply chain, and it also allowed them to deepen the connection with customers and engage in meaningful exchanges. One of the highlights of the visit was when Maria Clara Pereira Lima, Sustainability Manager at the Group Sustainability department, shared a personal connection with the coffee being packed: “I have previously worked on Fazenda da Lagoa, NKG’s farm in Brazil, and it was incredible to recognize the same beans now being roasted and packaged here in Hamburg. It was such a special moment for me, as I got to see the full circle of the coffee journey – from farm to final product.” Thank you to Heiko Dahmer at Tchibo Manufacturing Hamburg for showing our colleagues around! We are already looking forward to welcoming the Tchibo team at NKG soon. 📷: And thanks to the team for the pictures! 😊 #NeumannKaffeeGruppe #NKG #coffeelove #greencoffee

Neumann Kaffee Gruppe (NKG) shares their journey of transformation: overcoming diverse ERP systems, navigating complex regulations like 𝗘𝗨𝗗𝗥, and enhancing transparency along the coffee value chain. 📊 Three key challenges: • 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗘𝗥𝗣 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀: Managing data across 60 entities made unified reporting complex. • 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: Regulations such as CSRD, CSDDD, and EUDR demanded detailed traceability and consolidated insights. • 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: Sourcing from small producers required scalable tools to verify and share origin data for regulatory and customer needs. 💡 To address these challenges, NKG partnered with 𝗼𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘀 and implemented the 𝗼𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗛𝗨𝗕, a comprehensive ESG compliance and traceability solution. 𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁 #𝟭 Sustainability is said to be based on the premise of farmers' livelihoods. But how does the coffee industry tackle the balance between environment and livelihoods? Our Group thrives on many different perspectives from all our locations worldwide. We want to make these points of view visible – starting with Becamo, one of the largest and most reliable coffee exporters in Honduras. As a coffee and people passionate, the coffee exporter truly believes in a holistic approach, recognizing the vital role of every member within the green coffee value chain. Marcela Zelaya, Marketing and Communications, spoke to José Manuel Calero Moraga, Head of Sustainable Business Unit Why is it so important for the coffee industry to take care of the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and how do you try to enhance the situation (for example initiatives or projects)? Although 96 % of producers in Honduras operate on less than 7 hectares, they are responsible for an impressive 74 % of the nation’s coffee volume. The significance of caring for small producers lies in their vulnerability to various industry challenges, such as climate change, labor shortages due to migration, lack of access to financing, technical assistance and technology. To ensure well-being of smallholders, we actively support initiatives focused on providing access to clean water, distributing school kits, establishing daycare centers, and offering food baskets. How do you deal with climate change and thus environmental sustainability?🌏 🌱 We tackle climate change proactively with our dedicated Unit for Sustainable Services to Producers (USSP). Consisting of a team of 35 field agronomists, we work closely with 4,000 families, addressing a wide array of environmental concerns. Our efforts encompass various aspects including waste management, integrated pest and disease management, biofertilizer production, soil regeneration, species diversity preservation, and safe agrochemical practices.  Our vision for sustainability extends further, as we are in the process of hiring additional agronomists, reaching a total of 53 in the field, to support 14,000 producers nationwide. What are special engagements at Becamo that you would love to share with the audience? The integration of women and youth in our sustainability programs is crucial. That's why we've developed coffee brands specifically highlighting women and youth, aiming to inspire them to remain active in the sector. Moreover, we are committed to child protection and fair labor practices. Our holistic approach to sustainability emphasizes our dedication to preserving communities and empowering our producers for the future of the Honduran coffee industry. By prioritizing climate resilience, we aim to create a more vibrant and sustainable coffee landscape for generations to come. _____ Accompany Becamo's coffee journey and stay updated by following their LinkedIn account!
